Is this a good deal?

Saw a 84 GSL by the road today with $1000 OBO sign. Seems to have no rust (at least outside) has about 60 K on a rebuilt 12a. Also has RB exhaust, not sure how old. Interior looks good, **** missing on fan control, and rear signal lens is caved in. Paint looks good (white) not great, some flaking, but again no rust I can find. I'm probably gonna drive it this evening.
What would you experienced & knowledgeable folks offer the owner?

It does say obo right? I would offer 650-750 depending on overall condition and compression check.

peace

Ok, I just drove it. It drove wonderful, good power, smooth idle. One thing..it has a grind when going into third gear. All others smooth shifting. What am I looking at $$ wise for repair on this?
Thanks!

you would probably need a new tranny out of a junkyard or something for a few hundred bucks. Then get a friend to help you install it

Junkyard tranny in Arlington, TX = $75, I kid you not...if the car passed inspection and is tagged, go as high as $900...sounds like a sweet deal...

You said you didn't see any visible rust from the outside. Check the rear wheel wells very carefully...something I didn't check when I bought mine and now I'll be doing quite a bit of metal work fixing it. Also check the storage bins (see if the owner will let you take them out to check the metal underneath) and also check the spare tire area.

Well, I'm picking it up tonight for $750. Closer examination showed tiny amount of rust in rear hatch, right around the glass seal. None on wheel wells. I didn't pull the bins (yet), but I'm hoping for no surprises.
Owner is a good guy, took good care of it, even has ALL the maintenance records, even the original bill of sale from the dealer!
Thanks for all the advise, I've already ordered redline tranny & difff fluid to see if that helps the grind.

Sounds like an excellent deal then. Congrats!! The rear signal lense is caved in? Does that include the metal or is just the lense broke? Is it the left hand or right hand as viewed from the rear looking forward?
I have an extra right hand lense if needed, just make an offer. If interested I'll check to make sure there is no cracking and snap off a picture.
