Angry gm alt question

I did the swap and nothing changed. wtf?! i used one from an 86 regal, new, cross checked part numbers and ears size, same as the 92 buick someone else used. printed out diagram and took it outside and followed it to a t. is there something wrong with my electronics? alt is good and it still sits at 12.5-13 v. and gauges seem to have a draw on them when some other eletric thing is on (headlights radio ect). when i turn the headlights on, the voltage goes up a little and the rpm also goes up? ideas please!! I need you opinions.

Good one. Most peoples volts and rpms go down. What's the problem? Voltage output should be reading, 14-14.5, though.

Try adding a thicker gauge cable from the alternator post to the battery, 10G should do the trick

The wiring would be the same with the SE. From 80-88, all RX-7s used the same alt wiring. You don't need to upgrade the battery. The alt is just capable of producing more current than stock. The heavy gauge wiring just eliminates using the old stock wiring and creates less voltage drop between the alt and the battery. I used 8 ga. on my SE with the S5 alt.

When you guys check your voltage, what are you using? I know the voltmeter on my car reads about 1 volt low. You need to use a voltmeter/lmultimeter to really test it.

This isn't a performance mod, it gives you more electrical ability to operate accessories. You should be able to run a big stereo, A/C, spot/fog lights, DVD etc without drawing too much power.
