glove box speaker box
Just installed a stereo, the prosess reminded me how small this car is.
Has anybody used the rear glove boxes as speaker boxes?
Has anyone converted them to speakerboxes?
And do you have any pics?

I believe there are a couple of owners that actually converted that space for subwoofer spaces. It's possible. The best thing to do if you are just looking for a little more punch is use them for 6 x 9's. Measure and use some covered mdf, cut out ring, mount, done.

Plenty of people have done it. If you search there are a few threads on it. Personally I won't do it. It doesn't give the bass sound wave enough time to develop before you hear it, so it's not optimal, but it does work.

here's what it looks like...

and here it is mounted in the car..(you can sorta see it in the rear, it fits nice and i had enough space to put my sunroof in the trunk. no complaints except that it was my first box and i made it too big cuz i had planned on putting two 8" subs in the back of it but i couldn't add more weight to it)
weight does get to be an issue that's why i took mine out, i'm planning on building anotherone..don't know where yet, but definitely smaller and lighter...this one i took out is easily 60lbs just the box with the speaker (12" MTX) so it's heavy....

I had two twelves in mine. I didn't build the boxes (another forum member did)

The bottom of the boxes are carpet with a **** ton of fiberglass resin to harden into the form of the bottom of the bin area. I miss that car. Sold it for 3K

wow. how was the bass quality there? did you hear the sub moving before you heard the bass? I actually wanted to do this, but I had 2 shops tel me that wouldn't do it because it would be a waste of my money for the reasons I posted earlier.

It was actually really good. The box construction was good quality and everything was mounted in and sealed very well. There were no rattles on the car at all, even outside. Granted it took me half a day to find all the rattles and fix them, but overall it was a really nice setup. The explodes were a cheap substitute. I ended up with rockford fosgates. I never really needed to push them as far as they would go, it was just to.......painful. haha.
Enclosed 8" JL Audio subwoofer in the passenger side storage box. The solid lid was cut out and replaced by fabric. Been there 14 years with "no rattles" and nice base response. Lousy photos attached.
