Giving Up the Ghost.....9 yrs down the tube.

Well I have come to an "APEX" in my life....as it were. I realized the other day that I sold the only "nice" rex I ever owned. It appears as though I will never have that "dream" FB I always wanted... I sold my first car when I was 18 out of anger, it was an 83 GS I was 15 when I bought it, 232K on the clock I tore every bolt off that car it was like NEW! I even commisioned MAZDATRIX to build me a 12a to the tune of $2300 plus shipping (massive s-port with ceramic seals). I put over $5K into that car by the time I was 17. I drove the car for 800miles and a little relay problem threw me into a fit and I sold the car for $2300..... I was 18 and stupid. I built the car for 3 years, drove it for 2 months and ditched it.

Since then I have owned over 10 rx-7's, but none have been like my first. I built one with another streetported motor, sold it, after working on it for 2.5 years, never even drove it..

I have since (past 2 years) been working on a 13b swap into a 12a'd 1985. I bought 2 13B's to put in, pulled one out put another in... Recently after preparing to paint the car I realized that there are too many flaws in the car for me to ever really enjoy it- Cheezy aftermarket sunroof, stuff like that....

I am pretty sure I am done... If I can't find a GSL-SE donor car in the next couple weeks I am selling everything I have related to RX-7's and moving on with my life.. I have poured more blood, tears, and heartache into these cars then I care to tell about. I am fed up.. I have been fighting for 9 years passionately, but I am seeing no return..

Maybe someday down the road I will find a nice Rex, one I will get to drive... But for now I think I am throwing in the towel..

If anyone knows of anyone looking to buy TONS of rx-7 parts I will be selling my intire collection.

Cars I will sell as whole or parts:

1980 LS- 87K orig miles anything you need let me know- no int. 12a good!
1981 GS- Parting out (reported engine fine)
1985 GS- 2nd gen 13B swapped in.. All parts related to that lots of extras, suspension, interior, wheels (LE), ect
1987 T2 chassis, no motor or trans

I will post all the stuff in the FS section, I will also give away TONS OF parts to local club members if they need them. Otherwise they are in the trash.

I know I am being a little bitch, but oh well, I am so tired of having the useless dream that never comes true. I hope the one car I am banking on to change my mind comes through, if not, It's been great chatting with all you guys, I have learned so much and feel like I have a ton more firends and aquaitences now. You guys helped me through some of the hardest times in my life (you know who you are and what it was about). Thanks again for all your help and support.

Trevor

Why not just work out the dents and make the car what you want it to be.

I got my perfect car two years ago. have not even started it this summer, But I enjoy looking at it every day. And I keep buying parts and peices to make it what I want. May even paint it someday.

I bet you have seen the car before

Point is, it is not perfect but I will make it that way, Or it will sit in the garage and I will make Vroom Vroom noises when I sit behind the wheel. Eaither way it is mine and costs me nothing to own.

Well other then the $2 a year in Taxes.

i'd be tired of it too, if i was working on the same cars for 9 years straight. I like a little variety. I might be getting my FIRST rx7 in next couple days, so for me its like getting laid for the first time.

Matthew, that's a nice looking 7 you've got going! I think Trevor is going to regret his decision.

RRTEC...I've been down the same road when it comes to RX-7's. Always wanted the perfect one, like the first one I owned. Dumped a lot of time and money into several ones and sold them. I gave up on them for about 8 years and for some reason I'm back in the game. I guess I missed the smell of a rotary engine with a full exhaust. You guys know that smell....lol. If you give up now, you'll be back. Trust me.

i've only been doing it for about 3 years now, but i'm done as well, i've wasted more money on this bullshit hobby than all the guitar gear i've bought... its been a waste of my life... now that my 13B is already ooc, i'm putting a friggin 383 stroker in it and calling it quits, no more rotary bs. fragile little motors...

If all you ever do is work on them for years and then up and sell them then yes maybe you should move on to something more fulfilling for you. You have to drive them to really enjoy them, in other words it's a car. I suggest you take up art, it sounds more like your interest, seriously, not as a cut.

I will always be a rotorhead... but when your backyard looks like this... and you still don't have the perfect 7......

I am just putting this hobby to the side untill I find the 7 I want to own till I die, that is all.

It's been 8 years and I'm just tired of sinking money into the car. I have some money saved and with the money from the car I'm buying putting a down on a condo. My friend bought his APT 3 years ago and it's already worth 70K more.

I have a decent job now, so when the new rx7 is released I plan on buying one through some ccw's on it and thats it.

I'm going to try and get $6500 for the car when its fully tuned. I'll drive her for a few months off the Ebay.

Just means you need more Yard.

Wish I had a nice spot like that to part cars on. I end up doing it on the Dirt.

This is getting rediculous!

TOO many of us first gen types GIVING UP!!!
What has gone wrong? Is there some sort of brainwashing scheme going on here?!!

I can think of six or seven people giving up the ghost on their first gens! For STUPID REASONS!

I had one forum member (clue: He hasn't been around much lately) try to sell me his car, now that it is WORKING, with a GOOD COMPRESSION MOTOR (something he hadn't seen in quite some time), with a TON of mods, for only $1,200! This car is worth WELL more than $3K!

Granted, he may have just been trying to help me out, but, damn!
Of course, if I would have been able to get down there to buy it from him, I'd be driving it home TODAY, but. . . .

Come on, people, you need to just stop being quitters. There's other people out there with equally bad luck, if not worse, that don't give up!
