give me your opinions please

i found another 85 gs in an area that will remain un disclosed at the moment.
the car looks pretty complete even has some nice ofset wheels on it. the only thing is that when i went to the home to make an offer on the car, the owner said it belonged to his son who sadly died in Iraq, and that he would not consider selling the car.

now ive heard many people tell me they wont sell an item before, and eventualy i got them to give up said item. my wife tells me that i should let it go, but i still would like to pursue the buy. any advice pro or con would be peachy...

Go back, tell him:
1) That you appreciate the service & sacrifice that his son made for all of us (tell him that for me too).
2) That perhaps his son would have wanted the car to go to someone who would appreciate it & take care of it.
3) That you understand how he feels, & only he knows what feels right to him. Therefore, you just wanted to leave your phone # with him in case he changes his mind.
Give him your # (have it written down already), shake his hand & tell him thanks for his time.
Don't bother him again unless you see a sign on it. If you're sincere he might just give you a call. If you're not sincere then you *are* an *******. LOL.

If this man's son was a passionate about his 7 as most of us here are, it may be his last tie to his son who sacrificed his life for all of us. Imho, it would be just plain tacky and disrepectful to push him. If I were in his shoes, and I have 2 sons that are military age, I would be inclined to keep the car for the memories that we shared together working on the car.

At the most, I would leave the owner my name and contact info, pay respects to him for his loss and tell him if he ever decides to sell it to please keep you in mind. Anymore than that and you would be taken as being disrespecful of the man's loss.

^^ +1

Im glad other people got to post before I did. Being a sentimental person I can understand his situation, and for you to do anything more than leave your number incase he wants to sell it, would indeed deem you an ******* no matter how you may word it. Just my opinion.

Leave the man alone. He lost his son in a senseless war, last thing he needs is some yahoo hassling him about his son's ride. Dont cry if he knocks your head off by bugging him about it again.

jeeze, you guys make it sound like i plan to kill his dog if he doesnt sell me the car. I only planned on giving my # and name, i just was coming here because as soon as he told me the car was his sons who died in iraq, i told him i was sorry to hear that, and that i was sorry for taking up his time and left. at that point i didnt know if i should have given him a # or not. thats why i came here where i could get the possibility of hundreds of opinions to help me decide, and i appreciate them all.

I just got out of the army myself and now i'm in the army reserve. I know we don't need politics here but this is something that I feel very strongly about. If there is such thing as a war that makes sense this is one. Have you seen or heard about the things that Sudam did to his own people? Have you seen the way that innocent civilians are tortured and bodies degraded by insurgents? We have the power to not allow this to happen to innocents and that is what we are doing. Every soldier knows why he his there and what he is working toward. That man's son is a hero more so than the politics of the war will ever let be known. It is horrible that American soldiers have had to die for this but God bless what he has done, don't downplay the hero's sacrifice by demeaning his cause

^^^ I'm sorry but i might of missed all the innocent Iraqi citizen that have had to die due to that war, and all the homeless citizen that have had to die due to that war, can someone explain to me also why is it that the US is always trying to take out the "weapons of mass destruction" from all the other countries, meanwhile they have all their own? Why is it that the US is one of the biggest countries at developing new weapons (if anyone read popular mechanics or such magazines you know what i'm talking about), there's always this new oh lets get these super soldiers, robotic suit that can make them knock down walls, nanotechnology such as bugs and stuff, 9/11 happened it almost became the end of the world to US, meanwhile hundreds of people die in war everyday, with most US citizens really not giving much thought about it, and with all this war and "loss" in Iraq because thats what it was really was, a US secretary of defense said and I quote " I don't know why we went into a country that had, and never had any hope". So please don't talk politics about army services as really doesn't matter what side it is, war is wrong, and to be honest doesn't matter what sadam had done, because I believe that whether he did or did not torchure some people, it couldn't of been as much as the US army has tortured all the Iraqi citizen, and destroyed their homes and their loved ones.

As for the original posture, As everyone has said name and number and out of it.

Oh God... here we go.

All I know is my brother is in right now and I can see what has happened there. My brother speaks Arabic and before going to the Army was a junior ambassador to the middle east working on his masters in comparative religion and middle easter culture. My brother knows. I know through him. We went to do a job and now our side of the job is done. It is a civil war between multiple tribes of Iraq. We took a large dictatorial government out of power who threatened other nations and saved innocents. Now all of those innocents are on someones side fighting another side and we are in the cross fire. You can't stop thousands of years of religious war with guns and "God Bless America". It's Iraqs job to use the job we did and the government we helped build to do something about these tribes. Respect the governmental idea and the troops even if you don't respect Bush or the war or congress. They signed up to do a job and there job is to obey the orders of the free land you live in. They are all heroes.

Don't like something, vote.

Gents, let's keep the politics out of this thread. This is not the place for it and it doesn't answer the thread starter's question.

His question has been answered... now the thread itself is just left to flap in the breeze.

No, I agree with everyone so far. Just be polite, respectful, drop off a card with your name and number... maybe just write him a letter and put it in his mail box.

I'm not going to go on another rant, I've said what needs to be said...whether it's listened too whatever. I love this country and I feel that young men dying in Iraq deserve much respect than they get. thats all, and I drop it.
