Ghetto Hood Vent???

I think of alot of stupid stuff... I REALLY DO I was wondering how much the temps in the engine bay would drop if I took the hood latch on my 1st gen and moved it up about 1 in leaving about a 1 in gap in between the hood and the body... Anyone know if it would work and let the hot air flow out of the engine bay??? Its either that or I get to try to butchure up my hood attempting to put in a cowl or some other form of vent...

It gets hot as hell down here in FL,Traffic jams and rush hours are not good for my 7,I drive with the hood propped up,just pull the release,Just dont drive over 40 and you will be ok,I had to do it in the summer and it worked and kept the car cooler.

nope, no hood popping.

drag racers are known to open the hoods like that. not only does it vent the hot air but releases the higher pressure in the engine bay.

A local autocrosser put taller rubber bushing in the corners wheres the hood meets the body and is still able to use the latch. The hood isnt noticably propped open that much but enough to let heat out while lined up waiting along the starting grid.. not letting the engine heat soak.
Ive been planning on having louvers put in, ala Amemiya

Just take your hood off if you want " ghetto stylin' ". Then you don't have to worry about any heat being trapped....

i've read about this drag racer back in 99? not sure. but he uses a 300zx-t (z31) hood scoop onto his 1st gen.

why not dill 2 fair size holes on either side of the hood release and it will allow the air into the vent in front of your windoe where the wiper motors are and it can come out there?

I have thought about that but if I was going to do anything that dramatic I would do it right and do reverse scoop referring to the "speed holes" ... Thanks for the info... I don’t have over heating problems but I have hot air from the fan running right into my air filter... I have thought about doing a cold air box/ ram air setup... but I don’t think I really want to put much more into this 1st gen... So I figured it would be easier to just try to get some of the hot air out of my engine bay...

if you're worried about hot air on your air box why don't you just put a naca port positioned in front of it on the hood. that way you have cold air on your air box.

I don’t have a cold air box... here are a few pics of my motor... I put a bigger 14 in air filter on my car so now its closer to the radiator... http://photos.yahoo.com/i_idle_pass_hondas
