getting rid of mice in the 7?
going home for lunch today all sorts of excited because i found myself a oil cooler so i went to make sure the lines are still looking ok.
opened the door, whofaa, the smell of urin like you wouldnt belive. popped the hood, bits and pieces of nuts or whatever they eat all over. anyone ever had this issue? if so what did you do to get rid of them?
the car sits outside away from the house, thank god.
i just bought a pak of mothballs and i am going to try pepermint altoids as well
i dont mind killing them but i dont want them rotting in my 7

been there done that. Best way to keep them out is to keep the car clean and make sure there is nothing in the way of food in the car. the mothballs should help.
Really the best way to keep them out is to drive the car and not let it sit.

most of the blue decon mouse poison is designed to dehydrate them before it kills them so they will leave your car in search of water then they will die...i would shampoo the seats and carpets and then take a shop vac and suck up all the water left over from the shampoo..and then hope for some nice warm days to leave all your windows open to dry the car out the rest of the way.. the smell will be gone after that

you will want to remove all carpet and sound deadenig padding in the vicinity of the source of smell. check good as it can be in many places. steam clean the carpets, throw away and replace the soiled sound deadening, and clean the metal underneath. dont forges the padding under the storage bins..always a prime source for infestation!

Happy to oblige, guys... I'm a real smartass at heart.
But for the mice, check the ventwork. Mice and squirrels always seem to end up in the vents, die, dry up, then come out in shreds the first time you turn the fan on. Or it will just stink for years until you buy a new air freshner and sell the car real fast.

i say set traps underneath the car... I had two dart into my engine bay while i was working on it, didn't feel like going after 'em with my hands, so I set a trap underneath. It got one, the neighbor's cat got the other.
Didn't someone on this forum have a 'coon living in their 7 once?
Kentetsu, well played.

In my FC i had to tear out the entire interior, including the HVAC under the dash. Bleached EVERYTHING, threw away carpets, seats, everything. Still couldn't get the smell COMPLETELY out.
Now I keep mothballs and desiccant in the car as well as keeping the inside sterile clean, and sealed up tight. Along with lots of mouse traps in my garage. I killed 15 mice and 5 moles in mouse traps this winter (I bought a pack of 4 for 1.78 and reuse them every time) most cost effective method ever. No mice in the new car.

discovered the little bastids had nested over winter in a spare 79 Limited wreck I was keeping for parts. Won't describe what they did to the seats
Mothballs are great deterrent OUTSIDE the car, but they are poison so inside would be dumb IMHO. I drop them under the car, and in the engine compartment, since rodents LOVE to chew wiring too !
Good reason to plug up the mufflers too during storage so they don't nest in the there (plus benefit of aiding to keep engine moisture free too, but that 's a storage issue dealt with in other threads...)

Round up a few black snakes and keep them warm. They'll eat your mice, roaches, and other vermin hanging around your car.
Might want to plug your tail pipe, carb or any other orifice they might crawl into.
Just don't sh*t yourself if one crawls out from under the seat and up your leg when you're driving.

But once the Rat's Nest has been removed, they've got no business even being in there. They should learn to stay out of places they are not welcome.

I have problems with chipmunks. I just chased one out today in my wrecked 7. It sat for 2 months... they don't waste time. There must be something they love in these cars like the insulation or sound material...... when I got it it had nests and nuts EVERYWHERE!!!!!!!! Chipmunks don't make it smell like urine tho, I guess thats a plus! lol

Just keep the cage with a heated rock inside it so the snake returns to the cage and pewps in it, snake poop smells baaaad
