this is getting old need some advice..

Ok, Reciently when I go to restart my car (84 se) when the engine is warm or basically anything above stone cold, the car doesnt want to start and it just floods out. If im lucky and it does start it starts hard and I have to throw some gas to it to keep it running. This is really starting to get old when it happens I have to pull the plugs and wait for the engine to cool down completley. I dont think its an ign component problem, its got new cap, rotor, plugs (ngk's) and wires. Can anyone tell me what they might think is goin on or how I might fix it? thx also I dont have a tps hooked up (faulty) and my buddy said the spark from the trailing coil looked a little weak.

Interesting. Well I doubt it's your trailing coil...trailing coil is only emissions and tach signal. I can run my car without any trailing wires connected.

As for the flooding..I'm wondering if you might have a leaky injectors? (guess). Did you have this problem before your tps went bad?

I'd suggest you search, and maybe ask on the 2nd gen forum. I hear its a common problem with SE's and FC's.

I have found that the tps is very critical on an se. Although your discription sounds like classic ECU temp sensor it thinks the car is cold all the time. Good Luck

No the problem occured once before the tps went bad, but it eventually fired while the engine was hot. it would make sense that the computer things the engines cold because that would cause a flood condition, however does the ecu have its own temp sensor seperate from the one that signals the gauge in the dash? Im lost and getting frustrated, I cant drive this car if im not sure its going to start when the engine is warm

If you don't have the TPS hooked up then of course the thing isn't going to know where the pedal is at. Get a new (used) TPS and in the meantime hook up a fuel cutoff switch or pull the engine fuse crank and then put it back in and start it up (if flooded).

BTW: If you need a good working TPS lemme know as I have one for sale.

Ok, well it seems to me that the tps is effecting the fuel curves, however I know that isnt the entire cause, it is most likley a coolant temp problem, however im still a little foggy, ill just go through the entire thing piece by piece as usual

Coolant temps...is your water temp above normal? My rad has turned to flaky scales and the thermostat is as old as hell.

Having your injectors serviced wouldn't be a bad idea anywayz..considering there are only two of them and they are almost 20 yrs old.
