Welcome! I ran a 650 on a 12A for a few years. Most would say that it was too much carb., but I sure never ran out of top end with it. It pulled strong right thru 10K rpm (though I tried not to do that too often!).
I guess you will be even busier for the next several days?

I have been a member of this forum for over a year now, and I believe I just made my first post a couple of weeks ago! I have just kind of lurked around and used the email account and other links on this site, I guess. But enough about my lack of use, about me, which, I really don't do well, and the car:
I bought my 1984 RX-7 S just about a year and a half ago now. Been planning to restore it ever since, unfortunatly, things happen, and they don't happen. So the car is still quite a ways from finished (if such a state exists!) I will have a budget paint job done later this month (already placed the down payment) and the frame will be repaired and sealed before I paint it. I still have not decided weather to restore or build this one, but there are a few things to do to it either way first.
I am 22, considering college soon (have been considering for the last four years). Work for a small computer bussiness located in Columbus, Ohio. I am an assistant manager at the warehouse, in charge of ebay corispondence and shipping. I also work part time at a family owned pizza shop as a delivery driver/manager, where I worked full time for a year and a half as a manager before I found my computer store. I have always loved cars, just never got into them untill after I smashed my first one 8-0 and have not been able to stop buying them ever since. This RX-7 is the first car that I have found that I TOTALLY love. I plan to keep it forever* I feel like I'm draging on now...but it's prolly just a trick in the fact that this reply window is half the width of the actuall posts .
That's about all really, I guess. I'm sure more about me will surface over time, as I will be more an active member around here this year. Great place, I've found here!

My name is Frank and I live high up on a hill in North Wales, UK. I have a good view out over the Irish Sea, Liverpool, Lancashire and Cumbria when the clouds roll away. It’s just a tiny property which my wife and I took for our retirement.
I was never really a car freak – that is until I saw my first RX-7 at a show in about 1981. It was the first car I had ever seen which looked (to me) truly beautiful. I was sold.

I bought two Series 1 cars from new while I was working (I was in TV renting/retailing) and thought they were truly great. The dreadful day came when they discontinued the Series 1. I bought a Series 2 but in my view it didn’t have anything like the visual appeal of the Series 1 and I dumped it when I could afford to do so. I bought another couple of Series 1 cars second hand after that.

I sold them when I retired about 8 years ago and I regretted doing so ever after. Since then I’ve been longingly looking at ads for Series 1 RX-7s but I never did much about it until a few weeks ago when my wife said, “If there’s just one thing I could do for you it would be to buy you another RX-7 “. Well – you’ve got to help out your wife as much as you can as any husband knows, so I started hunting in earnest, I was really busy.

In a nutshell I am now the rather astonished owner of a 1982 RX-7 Savanna Special Edition. I’m no car mechanic, but I know the bodywork of the RX intimately and this one is in unbelievably good condition, I’ve been right inside the various spots where they usually rust and this one is a peach. It’s even got the wheels with the centre in the shape of the rotor, cruise control, an emergency flare (!!!), tinted windows, leather seats. The best thing about it is that it’s totally original – just as turned out of the factory with the exhaust system intact, no body kits or anything like that and after six years dry storage almost unused with only 53,000 miles (85kkm) on the clock, certified. It’s a beauty – and I’m a happy lad again – at 73 years of age.

My weak points? I don’t know anything about cars but somehow bumble along OK. Strong points – well I’m reasonably good at photography, computer graphics including vector stuff and basic web design, so the support documents are looking good. I’m planning a photo shoot for the RX at a Welsh castle nearby in the next week or two.

Someone has pinched the ashtray, that’s my only moan, but I’ll run across one some day. People on these forums are really helpful.

Sorry this is so long, but then old people really ramble on, don’t they?

If I can find where to put them I'll pop some photos on when I have them,

Best wishes to all of you, and thanks again, Acuspeed.
Frank

YOU are who I want to be at 73! From what I have seen, if people retire and then STOP learning new things, they quickly fade away... until they pass away.
Having an absorbing hobby is very impartant, and NO-- drinking is not a hobby, even if it is Guinness. Frank, I truely wish you and your wonderful wife, MANY MANY years of healthy living and purely happy motoring!
Oh ****, only four posts? IS everything ok Frank? Maybe you are too busy driving your seven around, cruising Wales for hidden treasures (old sevens in pmint condition). And Maybe your seven is extremely reliable. Seventh heaven.

Ok, my name is Bryan, and I have been posting on this site since I purchased my two owner 85 GS from Bill in Apex NC (thanks for taking such good care of her Bill). I Have wanted a 1st gen RX7 since high school, when a friend (Larry) and I used to cruise and race (I don't condone street racing) in his mother's 84 GSL-SE 5 speed. His father (not his step dad) had a 79 with a massive whale tail and body kit. I wonder why she left him?
I learned to drive in an 82 4-door 5 speed base GLC. Wouldn't do 85mph down hill with a tail wind. But I used up Pirreli tires and rear wheel bearings at an alarming rate (dad thought it was the car's fault , since it was getting high in miles (100k)- he purchased the car new). Well, both me and my older bro learned to drive in this car, AND THE CAR TOOK IT!. That car spoiled me BAD. I would drive it like I hated it, and it would still get good gas mileage AND nothing EVER broke. But my friends in high school usually didn't want to ride with me again after one trip- I loved sliding it around corners, or using the parking brake to do 360s. Oh the memories. The there was that big party I had where I tried to trash my own yard and you couldn't even see the the marks.... oh never mind.
Ok, over the years I have had many different cars, but I always come back to Mazda.
.We need more Mazda lovers here

I have owned:
1982 Mazda GLC 4-door 5 speed (both my older brother and I learned to drive in this car- tough car)
1982 Cavalier type 10 CL 2 door hatch 4-speed
1986 Mazda 323 SE hatch 5 speed. great car! until I totaled it.
1984 Toyota Celica GTS 5 speed coupe. well built car.- leanred how to do body work on this car, and mechanical work.
1984 Pontiac Grand Prix. 3.8 auto. got rear ended first time I drove it after fixing all the bodywork.
1973 Ford F100 360 3 on the tree 2wd long bed- no power nothin (steering or brakes)- I rebuilt engine in apartment parking lot.
1990 Nissan 240sx SE hatch 5 speed. over-rated pretty-moble with a truck motor. But it did handle sweet.
1997 Mazda Protege LX 5 speed. (purchased new)
1992 Mazda Miata limited edition (black w/hardtop with tan leather and BBS wheels- great car)
1990 Mazda 323 SE 5 speed- many mods (wrecked twice, sold and is now being drivin with the wheels sticking out 1 foot each side )
1988 Dodge Caravan 3.0 auto. dad wanted me to get rid of his high mileage old van.
1994 Chevrolet Cavalier coupe. Auto. result of trade with friend who wanted the van (for some reason?).
1976 Jeep CJ-5 304 3 speed. Not running. result of trade with friend over van. (morale of the story- when somebody wants to trade two vehicles for one old but good running vehicle, run don't walk away because the vehicles they have are junk)
1990 Mazda B2600i 5 speed 2wd reg cab.
2001 Mazad B2300 reg cab 5 speed. New Mazda designed engine makes the Ranger much better- purchased new.
2001 Mazda B3000 ex cab 5 speed. my 3.slow but reliable. Purchased new.
1985 Mazda RX7 GS 5 speed. Love it!

I grew up in Kingsport Tn, and have lived in Morristown TN for 12 years. I am 32 years old. I am a truss designer- which is a contruction product. I take blue prints and create basically legos for building roof and floor sections. I am VERY grateful to all the RX7 club gurus for their knowledge. You guys are great.
I know all the (old) back roads in Kingsport that are fun to drive, and I know all the roads in the Morristown area that are fun to drive. I have always used driving curvey backroads as my 'therapy", and Mazda has been there more than any other manufacturer. No, Mazda isn't the brand you turn to if you want to win the stop light drag races, but I HAVE NEVER CARED about how fast my car runs from a standstill from a stop light- I WANT A CAR THAT IS FUN ON A TWISTy TWO LANE ROAD!

peace, Bryan.

(oh, and please forgive me for my bad spelling and typing- I have bad visiion and big fingers which don't help my typing)

My name is Sean and I'm 33. I'm married and have a 4 year old boy and another one coming in July. I live in Hanmer, Ontario and I'm a computer tech for the french public school board. I like anything that has to do with motors. I build my own stuff and spin the wrenches on my vehicles. Currently I own too many vehicles and even more toys. My off-road Toy is an '88 Toyota 4 Runner. It's lifted, has 33 inch mud tires and I'll be swapping out the IFS for a solid front axle. My daily driver is a '91 Acura Integra. It's my second one because I regretted selling my first one. Quick and playful it gets me where I need to go. My winter car is a '93 Subaru Loyal wagon AWD. Not particularly stylish or sporty but it's amazing where this thing can go! My wife drives an '87 Honda Accord with 413 000 kms on it. Motor has never been apart! The japanese know how to make motors. Ironicaly, my '82 RX7 GSL is my oldest car and it's the one with the least mileage at 148 000 kms. I bought it from a used car dealer in the middle of nowhere for $1500 certified. I wasn't looking for a car but I stopped because I always like the 1st gen and there aren't many around where I live. I drove it and liked it so I bought it on the spot.(been two and a half years and the wife still bugs me about it) I figured for $1500 it could last me a couple years and if it broke down I would just leave it where it was. Ya whatever! As soon as I turned the first bolt I was hooked. I will do almost anything to keep this car. My wife is 5'8" 135lbs and she says it's too small for her. I'm 6'2" 220lbs and it fits me like a glove. She thinks I'm crazy 'coz I talk to it. She talks to her plants I know she's crazy! The car had the original paint when I bought it. An off-white cream color so I painted it myself. Anyways, Take a look at the attached file and have a good laugh. The color looked completely different on the 1"x1" sample! Please, no leftover schoolbus paint wisecracks! One thing is for sure, I doubt anyone else has one this color! LOL. I'll be painting it again in the near future after I sort out the tired 12A. I am not sure what to do about it yet. Rebuild it, replace it with a 13B or something blasphemous like a small-block Ford. I'm not sure yet but if anybody has any advice I can sure use it. Thanks for listening.

Nothing to apologize for, Toughguy, it's a beautiful color. I especially like how you pulled the sunroof trim for a cleaner look...

That car looks sweet, is it unfinished or is the bumper black on purpose? I think it looks sweet like that.

The bumper was originally body color with just the trim being black. I left it unmasked for painting but I thought there was too much orange in the front so I spray bombed it with black bumper paint.

Well I'm new here but I have been a 7 owner for almost 10 years.

My real name is James. I am 27 years old an avid auto enthusiast. My pride and joy is my 1985 RX-7 GSL. I have owned this beauty for almost ten years and I still love it to death. It took me almost 3 years to find this car! The car is mostly original and is in very good condition. However I have made some minor mods. Currently I have a set of 15" ROH rims with P205/50R15 Michelin Pilots. Also the car has a rear rubber spoiler, Bosch Compass driving lights, and the Saratoga top sunroof.

On a personal note I am a consultant in the automotive industry. My specialty is the set-up and running of specialty automotive events for automanufacturers in Canada. I have done work for companies like Mercedes-Benz, Volvo, Toyota/Lexus, and Mazda. Back in the mid '90's I attended the Canadian Automotive Institute studying Automotive Marketing and Business Admin.

I have been lucky enough to live and work in Japan. I worked at a local dealership so I had many opertunities to drive some cool rides! Its nice to see that there is a good group in this place!

Later all!

James

Other cars in my driveway: '03 Camry SE, '02 Focus ZX5, '92 Tempo Coupe (winter car)

My name is sean, and first of all I am absolutely performace oriented, secondly, RX-7 minded.
I love big power in small packages, as per my 84 gslse with a 351 windsor, and my 86 gxl with a fuel injected 302 that is running about 400 horses ( I havent Dynoed it but it finaly ran a 10.89) I have tons of other cars, a 83 chevy 'sport van my Bro calls 'medium pimpin'
an 86 cavalier z24
a couple of ford police interceptorswith HO 5.0's
an old dodge with a 383 big block
67 442 (badcar!) this is my saturday night special with my wife! A BIG back seat:-)!
and a ton of other parts/project cars, a few 7's some boats and lawnmowers....

I would say my weak point is buying poor broken down firstgens...they are like a lost puppy to me! and I cant do body work...never have had to
My strong point is a whole bucket of patience I hide somewhere out in my garage, and a need for it to be perfect. Maybe thats why all my projects turn out great!I take video of everything I come across, and do in my garage for reference, and just to prove some of this crazy stuff I build(Can you say 454 lawnmower!!)
I just have a hoby of building, and its the best thing in the world to do, and RX7's are right in the thick of it!

Am I the only girl here??

My name is Lisa, I'm 33 years old, live in Stockton, CA. I'm new to everything RX7. I've lusted after the 7's for a LONG time, but the husband always told me I couldn't have one. Problem solved - ditched the hubby, bought an 82 Rx7 a week ago, and now life is GOOD!

Like I said, I'm really new, so be watching for tons of questions, and be gentle with the answers - ya'll are teaching (corrupting?) me here.

Hi Lisa, welcome. I have a friend who lives in Valley Springs and I got a chance to torture a couple Mustang ragtop rentals on the roads in your neck of the woods. Simply awesome to have a 'Stang airborne and come crashing down in a shower of sparks after smokin the tires off the wheels! Hehe. It was so nice driving in Cali that anytime someone needed something from the store, I would volunteer. My friend (who isn't really into cars) couldn't understand why a 50 mile drive to Lodi was just a short cruise for me. Ah I miss California. I wanna take a road trip with my '82 GSL and do the Pacific Coast Highway someday. (sigh) Someday.

Hey guys and gals, I've posted a few times but pretty much stick to reading.
My name is Anthony, I fell in love with 7's when my brother brought home a new 82 GSL. I was 12 then and now I'm 32, since then I have had a 83 which I drove into bad shape do to lack of knowledge and a first car. I had a 79 which was a fixer upper, and my baby, an 84 GSL-SE which I street ported, put a K&N, free flow exhaust and a ton of new parts. Unfortunately I sold her after I was diagnosed with cancer and not knowing my future outcome, put the money away for lean times.

I am very happy to say I have made a remarkable recovery after 2 hard years and after the wife and I get a new home(priorities you know) I will be looking to rekindle my love hate relationship with 7's. In the mean time I am involved in the Edmonton RX-7 club and we hope to have lots of good events this year.
I am happy to see so many other enthusiasts, It really is all of you that kept the rotary alive!!

Hi, my real name is Bart. I live in Belgium, Europe, and I'm 26 years old.
RX7's have been my dream for ages, with the decission to own one someday taken when I was 7 or 8 years old. Had to wait a bit though
I have owned a 1984 FB, a 1980 SA, a 1982 Mariah Mode one, a 1986 FC and a Mazda 626 as daily driver.
Apart from the 626 right now the Mariah is still there. The FC is scrapped and used as a parts car, the FB is in parts, waiting for a complete rebuild, and the SA is now in the good hands of my dad.
My Mariah is a keeper, with a lot of mods done to it (3 piece PLS rims, FD front brakes, RB exhaust, Mikuni carb, 1985 rear axle with LSD, very young engine with only 10.000 miles from new, FD seats, custom interior trim...)
The FB will be sold once finished, as I want to buy something else. Still not sure what. Either an old Jaguar XJS-V12, or a NSU Ro80.

Hi, I'm Chris Tesdal. I'm a seventeen year old living in central Illinios. We (me and my dad) just got an Rx-7, only five days ago! So far we've driven it less than 200 miles, yet we already both love it. My dad says that he's too big for the car and wants to move the seat (remount it) but i've already shot down that idea. Anyway back to me. I'm just your average high school student. Well i guess you wouldn't say average, I manage to do fairly well, in the top 10 of my class, and no I don't just study, I'm in a lot of extracurricular activities as well. Anyway, I first became interested in the Rx-7 a few years ago when I learned that they were the most popular implementation of the rotary engine. From that point on I was hooked. Slowly I began to drill the uniqness of this car in to my father. Since we've owned the car he has really taken a greater inspiration for the quality of the car. All I can say is that we really enjoy cars. lol. I suppose you have to when you have 6. I also reallized why there is such a following for this car even after almost 20 years of the end of the 1st generation. Well I guess that I got a little off topic, but I just wanted everyone to know how I feel and the impression I've gotten of the car so far.

Well, here I go. My name is Nory and I am 31. I have been into Rotatry's for as long as I can remember. I am originally from Puerto Rico and that is where it all started for me. My Dad was a big rotary fan and own at least 2 rx-2' and about 5 diffrent first gens through out the years. I am currently on second first gen which I purchased while living in San Antonio. Being in the military I move around a lot so now I am in Maryland. Right now the car is sweet but I still have a little work to do this July. I am pulling the engine with a friend as soon as I get back from a TDY that ends in July. We are putting 89-91 lighter and higher compression rotors and a lot more internal mods in search for 12's on a daily driver all motor first gen. the car has waaay to many mods to list.... The car posted a 13.8@103, but It can do a lot better than that. I was on street tires and my 60' was 2.4 which is terrible. After the engine is tuned and broken in I am going back with drag radials and a little less weight. So I'll keep you guys posted. If you guys are ever around the Balt-DC area let me know. I'll be glad to go and hang out. And that is about it.

My name is Bryan and I turn 17 in about a month. I got my first car - an 83 RX7 about a month ago and Ive done all the work on it since i had it. I will never get rid of it . I dont have as much experience as most of you because i havent really had the chance to play with cars until now. Im learning as I go, and I've learned alot so far. I'm in the process of rebuilding my 7, trying to get it running nice and smooth by the end of the summer. By the time im finished (which wont be for a while because im short on $) it will be insane! Im planning on doing a 20B swap when im finished restoring the 12A and the rest of the car. I feel special cause where I live I have the only first generation . There's only 3 7's total - mine and 2 second gen's. Im really excited about working on it but I need money really bad, I just got turned down for a job last week, I'll apply at some more places soon. Me and a friend (his car is crap) were messing around a couple days ago - doing e-brake 180s at 40mph, rally turns around turns etc. it was fun, and it just happened to be the same night that we saw 2 fast 2 furious, haha. I really wish there were more car people around here to hang out with - theres only like 3 nice cars that are souped up. Then theres like 8 million cavaliers with mufflers - what a bunch of *******. I havent raced anyone yet - im waiting for a new clutch and a few other parts, then im gonna go smash some cavaliers - thats nothing to brag about but they **** me off so bad and i wanna show them how much they suck and what a real car is. maybe ill get to race the other 7 this summer - that would be awesome. i just found out that theres an abandoned drag strip around where i live so that will be sweet for the summer. well i cant think of anything else to say so i guess thats it

Ok my turn

My names James, i live in Perth in Western Australia. i Have what i believe to be a 79 Rx7 (im not too sure coz i only have the manufacture plate, no vin numbers or anything to work off.. if anyone can help me let me know) It has a 12a mild port, stock carby, rats nest gone and all accompanying junk, has A/C but still wont work, headers and i believe to be a 1 1/2 or 1 3/4 exhaust (couple of holes in it... sounds extremely farty). Interiors pretty cruddy, i have lots of hopes and dreams but i cant afford any of them right now. My only source of income is the Army Reserves (in armoured corps, soon i get to drive the M113 Armoured Personnel Carrier, atm im just a recon. Scout) Its a good bit of fun, but i need a full time job. Im 18 years old. My 7 is my first car, i chose her because i have a friend who is madly into rotors, and his neighbour built up a rx4 with 13bt etc.. i fell in love there and then. Im only an ankle biter when it comes to cars, but i feel this is going to become a passion that wont die soon.

Well theres my 15 minutes of fame

James

P.S. any West Aussies on here email me sometime and we might be able to catch up

Ok, I've by-passed this thread numerous times without bothering to read. But now that I have...

Real name is Brett, age 41 and living in Calgary, Alberta (Canada) with my wife Tiana. She's a production clerk and I'm leaving the scaffold industry in August for my aircraft maint. engineer ticket. Still working weekends as a dj doing private gigs, weddings and such.
I've been a private pilot for six years and plan on building a high-performance 2-place sport plane powered by a 13B through an RWS reduction drive. Also plan on using my AME ticket to refurbish single-engine Cessna and Piper aircraft and then sell them for profit. This is much easier to accomplish if you have the credentials to legally perform all restoration tasks rather than pay an AME to do it for you.
We're investing for long-term growth via mutual and segregated funds in global equities so that we can actually enjoy retirement rather than just experience it.
I've been a rotary engine geek since 1978 when the rx7 was first introduced. Have owned four of them: a metallic red '81 GX (that's what GSL's were called in Canada until 1984), two '82 GX's--- one silver, the other black, and my current driver, a silver '85 GSL originally from California where rust is not a problem. After school has been completed I plan to replace this one with the nicest GSL-SE that I can find.

I just realized what this thread actually is. I never really bothered with all the stickies, I always just glance at them, and think Well, I'm not putting a TII in any time soon. You get the idea.

I haven't been registered long, as you can see. I do already have four-hundred some posts, with the suprsing fact that almost all are "legit".

I am probably one of the youngest members of this forum, I registered at age 16 (17 this July).

I am of course still in highschool, so I can't brag about my degrees, etc. I basically have no idea what to do after highschool, but the choices are either: Army ROTC, graphic designer, proffesional videographer *or* photographer, making shitloads of money from my punk band.
(I think I prefer the last idea)

I purchased my '85 GSL-SE about the time of my registration on here. It's black, runs great, and has turned me into an addict.

I never really grew up knowing much about cars or mechanics, and I still am lacking in that area.

There's my info, if anyone cares. I've decided to read everyone elses, I like the idea of knowing the people on here.
