Well, let's see, where to start.

My name's Matthew, I'm 21, I've been a member of the forum since April 14, 2001 (member number 2009). I bought my car in early November of 2000 for $3,500.00 with 78,101 miles. She's a Silver with Maroon interior 1985 GSL-SE. I bought her and she was bone stinking stock. My first modifications were simply "cheaper than OEM repairs." I got a Tokico suspension (springs and struts/shocks) to replace the OEM (very tired) suspension. A Bonez high flow cat and presilencer took care of 3 VERY dead original catalytics. Sadly, shortly thereafter I got bitten by the speed bug and a K&N cone filter and a MSD box joined the crew.

That was pretty much it. I got a job working in IT, spent 2 years as a Unix SA, paid off the loan 1 1/2 years early and spun the car on the highway damaging the left rear quarter pannel. (still need to fix that) Not to be stifled, I've been an active Solo II participant since I bought the car (stupid cone air filter put me into CSP) and race her whenever I can make it to an event.

At some point the car got an upgraded stereo (Blaupunkt speakers all around, Rockford Fosgate Amps (after the others I had in there got stolen while I was away for business..@*%(@$*(%) and an MTX sub) which featured the pride and joy and most expensive toy for the car so far, a 30GB Empeg in dash MP3 player.

Now that she's down for winter again I'm finally spending the time installing the Megasquirt ECU I bought and built almost a year ago. On the list of upgrades are intake manifolds and TWM Weber style throttle bodies (a 50DOCE sounds good..). I am a very technical person and was instantly attracted to the RX-7 and it's innovative engine. I am now a sportscar purist and can't see myself not-owning a RX-7 ever again.

I'm glad to see this section growing, it's great that people are hard at work tinkering and prodding more and more out of these cars.

My dream car is a mildly modified 3rd Generation RX-7 daily driver and a ***** to the walls 1st gen to play with on the weekends.

anything with pistons but the rotory engine just floors me (still) the first thing i did when i test drove my car , was try to break it, dump the clutch, spin it real high, took it on the freeway,i drove it hard,, and it didn't break
so i bought it.there were a bunch of small trim pieces missing. so i hunted it all down. i bought and installed a mariah mode four body kit, some panther 15 X 7's, a bonez hi-flow cat,new clutch, oil cooler, and s.s. hoses,
Everything on the car works, bells,lights,everything !
the engine is all stock with all the california smog crap.
the struts/shocks,bushings and engine are all OEM. and the car still hauls ***. the repairs i've done, all 'stick' .
the car accepts the work.. it's a 'good' car. ME i'm an artist, i guess, I own a stained glass / art glass studio

I own 13 guitars all electric, marshall stacks , rack mounts,,,oh, i also play in a band too. I grew up with cuda's, shelbys,boss 302's, mostly ford small blocks, execpt for 1967 shelby GT 500 with a holman/moody

My name is Matthew McGeary, and I'm twenty two years old. I reside in sunny Saskatchewan, Canada, where I go to the University of *gasp* Saskatchewan and work for Radio Shack and the City of Saskatoon. In early 1999 I was offered a job at a fishing camp in Northern Sask. Being without vehicle, I looked into getting a cheap beater to drive up to work and back down once a month when my break came up. I knew nothing about cars in general and didn't even know that the rotary existed.

My new boss at the camp mentioned that one of his employees was selling his 'little Japanese car' for $900 CDN. I inquired as to the model of car, and after some garbled messages, I finally got it: a '82 Mazda RX-7. I immediately went to the internet to research the car, and I fell in love. Not only did the RX-7 have beautiful lines, it was unique. I had some sort of 'rotary' engine which was, according to all the sites I visited, far superior to piston engines. I was excited to say the least, and bought the '82 in May of 1999.

It was a disaster.

The poor car had been severly neglegted during it's long life and required a lot of work. In the first two months I owned the car, it stranded me eight times over a variety of issues, including starter, alternator, clutch, etc. I am remarkably thick-headed when I want to be, and I was absolutely taken with the car... when it ran. I decided that subjecting the car to the rough gravel roads in Northern Sask was too harsh, and arranged alternate transportation.

Over the three years, I maintained the car as best I could, but my funds were (and still are) limited. Then last summer, I discovered Solo II. After the first run, I was faced with just how much work this '82 needed. The idea to sell the car began to germinate, until in November, a friend told me about a guy he knew at school that just bought a '79 GS for $100 CDN. The guy in question was planning to sell it for a profit, and I was game. The '79 had just over half the miles as my '82, and was in far better shape, though it looked far worse to the untrained eye. $700 later, it was mine. My '82 fetched $1400 a week later, and now I have a beautiful SA22C. My girlfriend thinks I'm crazy, but she doesn't mind riding around in a good looking car either .

Wow this is getting long. Anyways, there it is. I'm a proud Mazda owner and a very proud member of a community of RX owners that help each other to maintain and appreciate the cars we all love. Props to all of you, new and old.

My name is Ron,I live in Cincinnati,Ohio.Iam 36 years old married with 2 kids a 16 year old boy,12 year old girl.
I have a 82 rx7 that i have owned for about 10 years dont know much about it but......I know it fun as **** to drive and it like a timex takes a lickin and keeps on tickin.It sat in my garage for about 5 years because of the lame *** emmision test, which i did finally pass with no real work to it. I mostly just drive it back and forth to work. Manely drive my other halfs car,which is a badass 98 jeep grand cherokee5.9 limited.I held on to the 7 to give to my son on his 16 b-day but mommy said no way. So iam keeping it would like to get a different body,but...if not i will just run it till the wheels fall off with all the rust that might not be that far away from now.Its mostly stock as far as I know except for the exhaust which my buddy has weilded back together for me and said it wasnt stock.

My name is Jim Gillaspy and I live in Colorado. My interest in RX-7's started from buying a Rally car from Calf. I have been Ralling in SCCA for 5 years now. We (driver / Co-Driver) began with a Dodge Colt,FW Turbo 5 gear trans with overdrive shift.= 8 speed. The RX-7 has a Rotory Doc 13B, Yaw carb RB acc. and Bilstein/eibach suspention. The car is very fast and handles like a dream! Our intention is to run this car for a couple of more years and then look for 4 wheel drive options, but I also have a daily driver RX-7 so don't see myself jumping ship in any forseeable future.

I’ve seen this tread many time but never bothered to but tonight I feel like doing it, so.

Hi, my name is Michael, 18 (19 on 8th Feb!) and I’m from Melbourne, Australia. I’ve always been a huge car fan, always buying the magazines to see what’s cool and what’s new in the car world.
I had my eyes set on a Mazda 323 GTX when time came for me to get a car, but then the opportunity to get this rx7 with a blown engine came along, the body was in good order and the inside just need a clean up. It was going cheap and it was still a year before I would begin driving, so I took the car just thinking I would do a rebuild and it would be ready for me to drive. And from a rebuild my brother and I decided to give spraying the car a shot, and also try retriming the inside. So a project car that was only expected to take a few months ended up taking a full year to do. Pics of that here ( http://www.geocities.com/mickyspage ). The Rx7 has been alright to me, its had its problems but there hasn’t been anything I couldn’t do myself (thank god for the easy make up!).
Enough about the car, I completed all my schooling (finished VCE, Victorian certificate of Education) went on last year to do a TAFE course on Electrical Engineering. But after 14 years of being stuck in a class room with 100% practical work, I thought that is enough I need to get my hands dirty, I applied for a Mecatronic (Electrical/Mechanical) Tradesman Apprentice at Robert BOSCH and after all the elimination process I got the job! I don’t start that till 16th February.
So for now I’m just an unemployed bum, with no money to do anything good to the car.
And that’s my story, hope you’re still awake.

Hello, my name is Matt(freakboy). I have rebuilt a couple piston motors, and I finally decided to try something different. I have a 1979 Rx7 with a leaky rear rotor, and I am buying a carbureted 1985 from a friend at work. I have wanted a RX-7 for a long time, but I had too much negative feedback from people who had never worked on or owned one. I hope this ends up being a good experience, and I will need much feeback on how to properly take care of the new beast.
On a personal note, I am a Wastwater Treatment Tech 3 for the city of Eugene, so I really know my S**t. My last project was a 1968 Volvo P1800S. I sold it in a moment of weakness.

I like to lurk on this forum, and I've posted a couple times.
I've got an 88 AE awaiting a motor, but my first love was an '83 GS. It was too rough (REALLY rough), and too much ($1200 for a car that had sat 3 years, was really rough, and had no clutch, and didn't start!). I kept on, an eventually bought a 1985 Fiero V6.... wicked fast car, when it worked. Eventually sold the car in the summer of 2002, and the choices were a 1985 GSL with some serious frame rust (I posted here about that - thanks for your help!) and a 1988 AE that was MINT. The GSL had 240k on it and was a blast to drive, but I was in love with the AE....
I'm still looking for the right 12a powered FB, and I'll find it sometime... maybe even this summer. I remember the first time I took one out for a spin - it wasn't a rocket but it was more than enough kick for me, and I fell in love.

Well, what the hell.

My name's Dan DeRosia, and I'm 20 for another few months. I first came into this about a year ago when I was looking on getting into racing too; my dad had bought an ITC prepared VW Rabbit (ugh!) and I wanted into racing too so we started looking. A local guy had an Spec RX-7 prepared '84 GSL for sale and we went to look. I at the time had no idea what the hell an RX-7 was, but decided it was a lot nicer looking than the Rabbit.

Then I got to drive it. Yeah... there's no going back now. My dad rolled his Rabbit one race and borrowed it to run in ITA (still severely underprepared for the class) and he had a similar reaction. Bye bye Rabbit.

Various things followed; I started devouring any information about rotaries that I could get ahold of. I fell in love even worse with the things. I decided to shift my major to Automotive Engineering so I could figure out various things with airflow, as related to rotaries. I bought a pair of them; a rustbucket 85 GSL and a New Mexico GS (I think GS; no options on the thing) that doesn't run. The plan is to swap the worky bits over into the New Mexico car and repaint it, get it licensed and then start adding go-faster bits. Eventually I'm going to build up a Megasquirt and play with PPort secondaries on one of the spare 12As, but right now I'm in college and working on the school's Formula SAE team.

Maybe I'm sort of ambitious with some of my goals for things, but I'd rather aim high. Besides, none of this stuff is impossible, ne? Plenty of people have made Megasquirts before, Scalliwag has the homemade PPort thread going... yeah. I mostly pay attention in the other sections if you haven't noticed, as I find that a lot of the more interesting (to me) technical ideas are coming from there. And just... I'm rambling and am going to shut up now.

Well, I'm kinda getting to this a little late, but here goes.

My name's Fred. I'm a senior at Southeast High (Go Knights!!) in Lincoln, Nebraska. I started bugging my parents about me needing a car about the beginning of my sophomore year, and after a little north of a year and a half of nagging, they finally got me a silver 1984 Rx-7 GS 5-speed. By the end of my junior year, though, I had a pretty good reason for needing a car, though, as I was going to be taking classes at the University of Nebraska my senior year (ended up taking 3rd semester calc. and analytic geometry [Math 208] my first semester, and honors electricity and magnetism [Physics 212H] second semester).

Anyway, about February of my junior year, my friend, Jeff, and I started going around test driving cars which interested us. Started out driving a '94 240SX, then went to a 2002 Nissan Frontier Crew Cab, then a 2002 Toyota Tacoma, then 3 7's. The first one we drove was a Black S2 ('83, I think). It was great on the exterior, but when we drove it, it seemed to have some rear suspension problems, so $2500 USD sounded pretty high, which was what the guy wanted. The second one we drove was another S2 (same year, either '81 or '83), and the guy only wanted $500 for it, but every body panel needed replacing, it took us 10 minutes to get it started, the tach didn't work above 3k, the brake pedal had no feedback, and Jeff had to come around the car to get me out, because the inside driver's side door handle didn't work.

The third one was what eventually became my car. Its an '84 12A, with a straight body (although some dings). Only 83,000 miles on it when we bought it at the end of May '02. I'm the second owner. The lady I bought it from had used it primarily as a summer car since she bought her Explorer in '97, but it came with winter tires and a full size spare none the less. First major thing I did to the car was a conversion to power windows. I bought the regulators off EBay for a total cost of about $50. The total bill came to about $80 after I bought the necessary wiring and switches and stuff. Next thing I did was to have a new high side A/C hose made, so the air conditioner would work. The previous owner had installed (or rather, Best Buy had installed) a Pioneer DEH-1300 CD head unit, but the speakers were stock, so I installed a set of Infinity Reference speakers (452i in front, 652i in back). They sound awesome.

Nothing much happened to the car from October to December, but the last thing I did to it (completed today) was a replacement of the original shocks and struts with Tokico blues. Needless to say, they're absolutely amazing. They solved not only my suspension clunking, but also the squeaking. It feels like a brand new car.

My plans for the car are as follows:
-RB springs
-RB swaybars
-GSL-SE axle and brake swap
-cargo net like Manntis has
-silver face guages
-new steering wheel (haven't decided which one yet)
-shift **** and boot
-new head unit
-dual JL Audio 6" subs where the jack usually goes
-strut tower brace
-15x7 Volk Racing TE-37 rims wearing 205/50WR15 Bridgestone Potenza S03 rubber

You guys picked the right car to start with! These FBs are cheap to buy, cheap to fix and improve, and they go 'round the corners quickly! And they're the prettiest thing on the road, and that's important with the women (if you're interested in such things, of course).

Hi my name's Chris and I've been on these forums for almost a year (as 626LX), but I've never posted anything. Things all changed as I have installed DSL today! The internet is now... fast!

Anyways, I'm a senior in high school and a total car freak. At the end of junior year I borrowed some money (from my parents) and bought a 1984 RX-7 GSL-SE. It's got 160k miles on it, but is straight as an arrow and just had a rebuilt engine. I purchased it from the original owners (The husband passed away and so the wife sold it cuz she didn't need it sitting there in their driveway) Anyways, I'm going to join SF SCCA and do some Solo 2. My auto teacher also has a 1st gen, and built a killer autocrosser out of it.

I just stumbled upon this thread...I live in winston-salem, nc. Originally from Syracuse NY. Moved here on a job transfer in 1994 and been here since. I love the weather. I have "always" loved the style of the 1G. None of the other rx7's turn me on. I am strickly a 1G fan. When I was 24, the Gsl-se came out and I thought I died and went to heaven. That was the one I wanted but it had always escaped me cause I did not have the $16,000 for one nor the garage I would have needed to have. So, I got older and in 2000, I had the space, money and time to look for one. I did and got my 1st gsl-se . It had 89,000 miles. Thanks to the rx7 club members and my own education , I learned the basics about the car . I learned a lot on that car but I wanted to sell it and try and find a better one. I came across a 12a that I could not refuse, bought it, learned more about the car, sold it, found an 81,000 miles early gsl-se in maryland and bought it. I still have it. this will be my keeper cause it really is the nicest one I have ever seen...so far. I then bought a another gsl-se and still have that one too. It is brown with brown leather and I have always loved that color...still do. It has 95,000 miles and love tinkering with both cars. I really need to sell the brown one cause I do not have room for it...and it will soon sit outside cause I will be loosing my garage space for it. I will keep it as long as I can but it really has to go. It is currently for sale but I can't loose money on it..or I will not sell it. If it goes, I proably will keep an eye out for another one...itis just so much fun to buy one, play with it, give it TLC and tinker...It is just something I love to do...its in my blood. I use to work on old mustangs only but the "7" is my new love. I still have 3 mustangs but the '7" has become my passion. Plus, they are cheap to buy compared to a old Mustangs. I also enjoy buying and selling cars and parts. I enjoy car talk with other "7" owners .. I am not a dealer, just a car nut. ( 7's and mustangs mostly). take care....cjf

Hmmm, this thread is months old yet I didn't notice it until now, odd... Anyway, I'm Sean, 18 years old, and in my second semester at county collage. Currently I own 3 Fb's, all 83's coincidentilly and a 82 Trans Am (gee wheres my username from?) I was a hardcore muscle car guy from when I was 8 years old (gotta love Dukes of Hazzard) but after getting my TA at age 15 and then not being able to really drive it much because of inspection issues I got into Rx-7's. Sort of by accident really, my dad got it from a friend and ended up not using it much, he was gonna sell it to a friend of mine but since my TA was being gay he sold it to me instead, at first I didn't like it a whole lot, but it grew on me and after a month of two of driving it I was hooked. Now the TA just sits there and the 7 gets all the attention. anyway I'm sure I'm boring the hell outta you right now so thats about it. Just remember this: asian girls are hot.

Well, since I am new to the forum, here goes nothin.
My name is Jeff, from Oregon. I am a full time student at the University of Oregon, and work part time. Got my first, and 7 about 3 years ago, and got my second one (a parts car junker) just last month.
My car is an 85 gsl. I am the second owner. When i bought it, it only had 84,000 on it, and had always been garaged. Well, needless to say, the weather has gotten to it since i have had it. It is mainly stock with the regular maintinance upgrades (plug wires, cap, rotor, k&n, open intake, etc.) I am in the process of doing some more upgrades soon, but being a fulltime student, money is scarce!
Just reciently got into the performance aspect of the 7, as i only bought it because it was a cheap, reliable car. I have gotten everything possible out of it though, as i am on my 2nd clutch, and it is already gone. But that is ok, as i have the centerforce II waitin to go in!
I am going into school for business, but just want to graduate. I don't care what in, i just want the damn diploma... then i plan on making my way down to sunny Phoenix, AZ and go to UTI.
Well, that's my story and I am stickin to it!

Umm, I am so new here that I haven't been able to help solve many problems, but with all the ones that I have had, I feel that I can start trying to share my experiences.

My name is Joe. I live in the KC area, and have been in Real Estate for years. I am currently on my seventh RX-7. I never really worked on the first three that I had in my long illustrious college career, but I have done mondo work on my last four.

My current love is an '85 GS. It runs like crap, but I am working on it **see posts**. This is the one that I am planning on keeping for good. I have done much to it already, and I am just scratching the surface.

Being on the spot, I don't know what to say. If I can think of anything else, I'll throw up another line.

Hey, I've been lurking in the back here for a while. My names Jake. I've liked RX-7s since '83(I was 3 yrs.) 2 of my uncles owned them. One owned 2 first gens; the other had a FC turbo ii. Well one day I was on my way to go buy a '96 Miata when what did I see on my way, an awesome first gen. Well my child hood obsession came crashing back with vengeance. The car was in real good shape and it was just so pretty. The owner had decided to pull it off the marked the week before but I convinced him the car needed me. So now I'm The 3rd owner of a nice red '85 GSL.

Wow, I don't think I'm going to be able to put this together as well as some people but here goes...

My real name's George, I've own my 7 since I was 16 (I'm 20 now) and I can't imagine a better car. Well I could but it would involve me having money to spend on it. It all started one day after rugby practice, I was sitting outside waiting for a ride when one of the coaches walked up and asked if any of us were interested in buying a car. The 3 of us sitting there had nothing better to do so we all walked over to have a look. I fell in love with the car immediately.

The next week I had a mechanic friend come with me to check the car for mechanical soundness, it passed with flying colours, I bought the car that night. I was one month of hell waiting for my license, but from the day I first drove it the smile has never left my face.

When I got the car the engine had already been replaced (voluntary kill, oil control rings), now the reman have over 60 000 miles and the chassis is about to roll over 200K. This car has never failed or left me stranded, aside from mods and oil changes the only thing I had to do to the car was brakes. If the engine was to die tommorow I would even be angry, it's given me the best times of my life and I've pushed it for every ounce that it's got.

By the end of this summer my mod list should include

• RB springs and Tokico Blues (With Poly bushings)
• R-Compound tires ( Toyo RA-1's 205/60/13's)
• Weber 48 IDA and manifold
• Lightweight Flywheel from SelectMaz (5.65Kg)

These are my goals for this summer. After I finish my current Horticulture program, all hell with break loose with my SA. Once I get my current car as far as I can I want to buy another 7 and build a turbo FB. It will happen all in due time.

I've also started an Rx-7 Club for Vancouver island with my fellow forum member bcty. We only recently got going and have over 20 solid members, I think that number will easily double over the summer. Not bad for a small island were Rx-7's a few and far between.

It's been good to read about other member's to get a feel for where they're coming from. Good job Acuspeed.
This is still the best section of the forum as far as I'm concerned, hope it stays that way. Later, George.

Ill try and keep this Short.. Names Tyler.. I'm 18 and have had my 1st gen for 3months or so now but have had my 2nd gen for about 2 years.. NanaimoRx7 got me hooked on them.. I cant wait to get mine out on the road and rally it up.. its been sitting and being worked on till June 7th... My mods are just to myself... making me a better driver will increase the fun of the car and pushing it harder and harder it great! Its nice to be 18 with lots of money

there are so many here that most people probably won't read this but here goes...

i have grown up loving cars, i spent 4 years racing dirt track 1/4 mile ovals in northeatern PA. i am now currently 21 years old and stationed in italy with the Air Force. as far as sport compact goes i have had an illustirous string of rocket cars, to include an 88 plymouth reliant K-car and a 93 for tempo with a pin stripe. just recently however i stumbled onto what i would consider to be the fastest of the cars i own, a 1984 GSL SE. now i had talked about rx-7 before and even have a few friends who own them, but i had never had the chance to get one until now. the car is a work in progress. i bought it for $800 running and already switched to carburation. from what i heard that was the way to go since the 1984 fuel injection system wasn't considered to be the best. the block came bridgeported and with a massive holly 4 barrel 650 CFM carburator mounted to it's top. the carburator is shot so i have ordered a slightly smaller holly 4 barrel 390 CFM to replace it with. the bridgeported block is on the way out with a stock 84 13B block taking it's place and then i'm not sure what i will do. with the rising gas prices i may leave it at that and work on cosmetics for now. i have nice body kit picked out for it and what i think will be a really nice paint scheme. but other then that it's my new baby and i have no intentions of letting her go anytime soon. i am very happy that i could add this beauty to my already rip roaring stable of fast cars and i look forward to getting it back on the street.
