Ight well my name is karius im 17 from New York and im gunna keep it real ... I just got into cars like 2 months ago. Honestly i didnt no **** about them before except gas means go. my first car was a honda accord 1989 dx, it was an automatic and was the slowest **** ever. my friend had a nissan ser 5spd and always shittted on me so i got mad and sold the car. then bought another honda accord 1991 which i got jerked on it was a 5spd with an intake and exhaust on it so i thought i was hot **** even tho i didnt kno wat i was lookin at. the clutch was bad so i learned how to drive stick in a car wit a bad clutch so it was kinda easy and now it turns out i probly cant drive stick. i sold that car to because it had lots of problems and the clutch eventually went all together.

so one day im at my uncles house whos in love with cars and has been building rotary engines since before i was born and noticed he had 3 rx7s in the drive way wit no plates. so i looked at them and picked a black one and asked him if i could have it. theres no engine in it and the interiors horrible so he said all fixed up 1200 with a rebuilt engine i was like ight. then about two weeks later i started chillen wit this new kid in school who loved cars and thats all he talked about and he kinda got me hooked to.. so i called my uncle and was like i want the 7 but for free so i decided to help him rebuild it. its a black 83 with a roll cage and full exhaust the man who had it bbefor raced a liltle blew the engine and sold it to my uclle. the guy also put the fuel tank in the back of the car so gotta change that to. i have some money from the honda i sold and i am going to start to work on this seven really soon.

this site and how stuff works has taught me so much **** but i still have lots to learn and i just wanna thank everyone for answering my dumb ?s.

and i hate hondas now and have made it my goal to eat up all those hondas wit the crazy body kits super loud exhuast.
IM out be easy **zhotta**

Hello all

This forum has tons of Information. I think for the past 2 weeks or so I have been reading, Searching and reading...it feels like a never ending quest for knowledge. So after all this reading on first gens and such I though I might as well join. So here I am...

Alittle about me. Got my first 7 on 02/04/06 won it on a ebay auction for $355.00 with a parts car. It was out in Lancaster (200 miles from San Diego) Drove up there and towed it back...That was one long day.

My initial intent was to turn the 7 into a spec racer/mexico racer. $355.00 for a race car...but now I am in a quandry. That was before I saw how nice it was. When I mean NICE, I mean perfect body only faded paint on the hood, redone interior back in 1997, second wantanabe motor installed in 1998. Always garaged, always car covered. I have all the original dealer documentation and paper work, import punch car and rx7 atlas. SMOKIN DEAL. The bad: Desert car, SILT EVERY WHERE, dry rotten tires, dry rotten door rubber and sun dried A Pillar covers.

Other than that the car starts and drives. And the few hundred feet that I drove it...I had a blast. I absoulutely love my new 83 LE. I have already been offered 1k for it.

About me, really. Love cars. Live in SD. 25 y/o named: Todd. I also admin Mazda323performance.com forums. I have been on there for years. I also own a BPT Powered 88 323 hatch that I am trying to unload. It is SUPER FAST. Megasquirted with a subie td04l turbo. I kinda don't want to get rid of it because of sentimental value. But I will never drive it now that I have a 7. And after I am done with the 7 I won't want to even drive my Daily 02 G20...My plans are to resto mod the seven.

50mm EFI ITB into a custom manifold, running on Megasquirt. And turboed. After reading Wacky's writeup. I really want a turbo'd FB now. I am suprised how simple these engines are to add a turbo...Stupid simple.

Sorry about the length. I am just super excited that I own a FB.

Hello,

My name is Alexander Hipple and I'm eighteen years old. I recently purchased a 1984 Mazda RX-7 GSL for $700. Of course, after I bought it the clutch went out on me. That should be fixed soon and I cannot wait to get it out on the road. I don't do much as I don't work right now and this car was purchased as a birthday gift of sorts, for me, by me. I'm planning on returning this car to it's former glory and then making the bastard as fast as it could possibly be. I cannot express in words how very excited I am to be a part of this forum. You all have so much knowledge to share and I cannot wait to soak it all up. Hopefully someday I will be able to return the favor. Until then, expect tons of questions, even if I'm told to use the search feature. I prefer a one on one (or one on many if that's what it takes to get this information through my thick head) chat as opposed to me searching for information that isn't relevant to my particular situation. Trust me though, I do research a problem pretty thoroughly before posting something. If I do post something that has been asked before it's only because I have reason to believe that my situation is different from the ones that I searched for. I'm sorry if I end up annoying someone but I've always thought that the only stupid question would be the one that was never asked.

Regards,
Alexander Hipple

My name is mike

I have been in love with 1st gens since i was about 3 or 4 years of age ( 18 now). My dad races a '79 rx7 in SCCA's ITA class with some success, he also used to have an '88 GTU street car that i loved riding in. I got my first rx7 when i was about to turn 16 and get my liscence ('85 base model auto falling apart $300.... getting ahold of my dream car at 15, priceless). I later (a month after I turned 17) found a very clean, no rust nearly mint red GS 5sp at a used car lot that i traded a $200 minivan i had from a friend that gave it to me because he didn't like it. I still have me red one and just recently sold my other one about three months ago for $800. Now my line up of cars is a '93 plymouth voyager, '82 GS street car with the mods listed in my vB garage, my very own '83 ITA car that has a track record, and a (looks at the ground waiting to be burned) '90 acura integra LS.

P.S. In case anybody thinks I'm a spoiled kid I would just like to say that I have payed for each and every one of my vehicles myself through my own hard work with no financial aid.

Hi my name is Jimmy and i am a first time rx owner. I bought my 7 (85 gsl-se) from my brother in law in august 05 and i am the third owner. i was raised on piston motors so this is all new to me that is why you might see some stupid questions. anyway i am 28 married and have an 8 month old baby girl. i work at axiom automotive as a parts monkey selling transmission parts five days a week hooray. My other cars include 01 grand cherokee and 00 neon my 7 is the dd and the neon is my drag racer go ahead and shoot now i can take it. just tuned up the 7 and runs great but not to impressed with acceleration from a dead stop so i will keep the neon as the drag car but as far as wide open freeway or back road twisties i am very impressed. my goal is to restore this one and find another one as a dd. So i guess that wraps it up for me. Any suggestions on acceleration would be greatly appreciated

Hey fellas,
Im Lou. I live in Eagle Rock, CA (close to Glendale/Pasadena). Been into rotaries for about 11 years now.

Rotaries from my past:
RX2 - street port
RX3 SP - street port
RX3 standard - Bridgeport
2) GSL-SEs - Intake, Headers, exhaust on both
Most recently I sold my BLK/BLK '89 GTU a few months ago to a buddy of mine so I dont have a running rotary to speak of right now but im working on that!

I currrently have a 79 GS with a 4-port 13b/automatic (not running) & im about to buy a basket-case 84 GSL SE (salvaged) hopefully this weekend. Also on the look-out for a clean 84-85 car (any model) to use as my foundation for what I consider to be: "The Meanest 1st Gen Ever To Be Built!"

The '79, since its a very desirable non-sunroof car, ill be using as a daily driver so I at least have a running rotary for now. (im driving a 4-door, stock as a rock 97 Nissan Altima right now!!! its like day & night compared to my FC!)

The '84 GSL-SE will be relieved of its entire drivetrain/Fuel Injection sys & suspension which ill be swapping into the '79. The shell will then be given away for free to whoever would like it or ill have to send it to the crusher... from what I understand the body is pretty bad, not worth the time/$$$/effort to bring it back to life but it will have all the interior/ glass/exterior pieces in tact (minus the clutch/brake pedal assembly & whatever other bits ill need to convert the 79 from auto to manual) so if anyone is interested, lemme know!

Finally, Im in the parts-gathering stage right now for the "M.1st.G.E.T.B.B.". In a nutshell, Series5 Turbo II swap, daily driven & California emissions compliant! The body is gonna be plain-jane white with no mods (except for window tint to hide the roll cage), black interior, black 3peice Panasports & a fully upgraded suspension/chassis... whew! I salivate just thinking about it!!!

Anyway, thats about it on the rotary front. Other than that, I like to hang out in dive bars with my buds & drink my signature drink (Cap'n & Coke), I like turning wrenches on my cars & chopper (rigid/shovelhead/kick-only 4speed/no front brake) & listening to music...

How are you all doing, eh? Darren from Hamilton, Ontario Canada. Owned my '85 RX-7 GSL for roughly 6 months but I've been driving the car for about 8 years. I've gone through several different vehicles but the RX I've always loved to drive. It was a company car at work until 6 months ago when my boss decided (gratefully) to practically give it to me. I was overjoyed. I also own an '85 F-150 that's about in pieces right now http://fordtruckworld.tenmagazines.c...y.asp?id=13379 if you'd like to check it out. Was a VERY fast truck last year even though the engine was mostly stock but now it's getting the works. The RX is going to be my summertime fun car this year and hopefully I'll get her out to Dunnville race track a couple times this year.
Right now, btw, I work at an electrical wholesalers but I'm in school part time taking courses to complete the Industrial Mechanic/Millwright program.

Add one more Canadian to the list! My name is Eric. I have never been much of a car guy but I got my first and current RX-7 two years ago. It used to be my Ex-girlfriend’s but she didn't give that car the TCL it deserved so when we split up I bought it off her and started to bring it back to life.

Working on the RX has been quite a learning experience. Thanks to all of you out there for being patient and posting lots of how-to’s. The RX is an incredible piece of engineering! Working on it is a pleasure compared to my p.o.s. Jeep Cherokee (where things never seem to be placed right, are buried behind 12 other components, or are welded into place). I know some of you guys have been around this car a long time but when was the last time you stopped to think about what this car was when it came out in the 80’s. This was state of the art! Every time I take something off to fix it, I always end up saying “Wow, that was simple.” They really put a lot of thought into everything. OK, enough about the Mazda Engineers.

So now I am slowly rebuilding and tuning this FB. I am more of a mountain bike/climber type but I am finding new talents in the shop. I got most of the mechanical problems sorted out and I am getting ready to paint it this summer. All in all, between the girlfriend and the RX , I think I got the better end of the deal.

See you out there in rotor land!

Wow! I'm glad I stumbled on to this forum. My name is Mike and am among the older set here. I've had an 82 GSL since it was new. I haven't driven it much over the past number of years as it just turned 104K. I destroyed two new batteries by just letting it sit, so a few weeks back when I replaced the battery again, I decided to really start getting some fun out of it again.

The car is white with the maroon leather interior. The interior is in perfect condition (no cracks, tears, or fading), and the exterior is dent free with only a few rust spots in the paint. I really want to get the car back into top shape. I have never had any vehicle that is much fun to drive.

The only two things I have done so far are replacing the rear hatch struts (I think the originals failed after the first year), and had the 13" wheels bead blasted (clear coat was gone many years ago, and they looked like crap). Other plans are to replace the power antenna (shot out like someone casting for trout), replace any worn out suspension parts, and finally a new paint job. The engine seems to run fine, so hopefully there wont be much to do in that department.

I think this forum will be very helpful. I belong to a Tundra forum that is run the same way, and has really been helpful. I know I will have some questions, and hopefully be able to contibute something. But, after reading through a number of the posts, I realize how limited my knowledge is on this car.

Hi, My name is Ryan,I currently have a series 2 RX7 with a 13B carby conversion. It has a lightened flywheel, big carby(52mm), straight through exhaust system from manifold, and the engine has an extended port(therfore doesnt run well unless your foot is flat to the floor). Due to this, i have decided to go down the path of yet another molested conversion of a 13b turbo from a series 5 RX7. Have been quoted a max price of $9000 for the whole conversion including rebuild of engine and turbo, microtech ECu, and fuel lines. Just wondering if anyone has every done a similar thing to this, and whether it is worth spending the money. I want something that goes pretty hard but is reliable. Have heard that slapping a bigger turbo always does wonders.
please advise.

P.S Only reason im doing my doing my RX7 up is that the body is in pristine condition and if i got something like a skyline or silvia i would blend in with every other rev head.

Hello everyone my name is Jon
In light of some recent tragedy i have come into ownership of an 85 RX-7 GSL Silver in color
I also own a 2001 Celica GTS with a blown engine (hence recent tragedy) and before that i had owned a 97 toyota tercel blackhawk (hence my name) i have fallen in love with every car i have owned and i dont see any different with the RX-7.
I'm 19 years old and own a mobile home in which i reside, So far my life has gone downhill since my senior year when i slacked off i could have gotten a full ride but instead became too lazy to even apply to a community college whcih put me working 65 hours a week as an assistant manager of a fast food joint (Burger King) and i got into smoking pot and my parents busted me and called the cops and kicked me out in the same day so i had no car (Tercel had recently been totaled in a no fault accident) and no place to stay. I moved in with a roomate whose ethnicity i will leave out and continued to smoke pot and within a week i had gotten my Celica. I lived with my roomoate for about 3 months until i had nothing valuable left (stolen) and my roomate had gotten fired twice since i moved in so i withheld rent (not on the lease) for 2 months and got my own apartment. Lived there for a month or so and moved into my 800 dollar trailer which i'm fixing up and selling for a down payment on a house. Currently i am working as a medical billing agent in search of a second job to help save for a new celica engine and wondering what else bad will happen.
With my drug issue i was sentenced to pay 495 dollars 12 months supervised probation and court ordered drug counseling all for posessing 2.4 grams of marijuana. So needless to say i have cleaned up my act for the time being, reluctantly.
My plans in life are to go to college and major in finance and be a rich ******* the rest of my life and retire a millionaire. And somewhere along the line own a 1985 Mazda RX-7 with a V8 to stomp my ex bosses 05 GTO cause its the fastedst car in the world.

Hi, I'm James
I've been to this forum from time to time, but haven't registered til today.

I'm a die-hard REW fan whos is doing his victory lap in Highshool. I'm 18 years old.

I dont know alot about mechanics, but my passion lies in cars, and i'm picking up info everyday. Currently, i'm expected to enroll into the photography program @ Ryerson University in Toronto Ontario Canada, with hopes of either becoming a photographer for National Geographic, or a photographer for tuner mags.

My first passion for cars grew from sitting in a Porsche 911 Turbo (which was my first love) but upon introduction to games like Initial D arcade, Maximum tune, and Gran Turismo, i fell for rotorary cars. Spending alot of time (and money) on those games, i primarily drove rotory cars (mostly FD3S's and SE3P's) but then i ran into the SA22C while playing Gran Turismo.

I've since quit arcade racing games, and am working hard to buy myself a JDM SA22C (right hand drive first gen )
and i'm planning to drop in a 20b REW engine from a cosmos into it.

if theres anything more you'd like ti know about me, just PM or email me.

Proud and happy new owner of a 1980 SA22C with 147K miles (California). Interior's a little rough and some minor body damage, with a little rust in places and original paint. Spent the last couple of days tearing apart an '85 FB for spares (RIP): 55 Amp alternator, L&R seat belt restraints, sun visors, driver's headlight assembly (sans motor), hatch skirt w/ dome light, interior door handle. Waiting for newer seats and a hatch gasket/seal to arrive and hopefully pass smog.

My name is Chris, my car obsession started with mustangs back when I was about 12 years old. Have always been a fan (always will be too). My first car was a 68 Bonneville. I replaced a rear quarter panel and repaited it myself. I drove that beast of a gas ***** for 1 year before I traded it to my dad for a 1989 nissan pulsar. I drove the pulsar through one engine, and put well over 100k on it in 8 years.

About 4 years ago talking with a friend the subject of rx-7's and rotarys came up. I had never heard of the rotary engines or what they were capable of. I was hooked after some research. Such a simply complex piece of equipment. If All goes well on the test drive I will own my first rx7 on monday: 1985 rx7-gs. I can't wait.

Hi,

My name is Keith and this will be my third 1st Gen RX7 - first one that runs however.

She is a 1980 model, interior has been stripped out for racing, has KYB-GR2 struts / shocks, Racing Beat springs, Racing Beat adjustable sway bars - currently riding on 175/60-13 Kumho V700s.

No known mods to the engine but the removal of the rats nest and alteration of the emissions controls.

I plan on making this an occassional driver and autocross / time trial car.

I drove it back to Springfield, VA from Chesapeake, VA and had the best ride I'd had in a while - the people in the over insulated yawn-o-boxes all looked over jealously at the little beast as she roared on by - the cherry bomb muffler giving a nice growl to the exhaust. On ramps didn't stand a chance and any twisty bits were taken with grand aplomb.

She and I stopped for something at McDonalds and the cute girl at the drive-up window was going goo-goo over the car - she leaned out the window and looked excitedly inside - "no interior" she said, smiling, eyes twinkling.

I think that the little beast and I are going to have to go back out and get some food at McDonald's again...

Live Free, Drive Rotary...

Keith

Alright, my name is Jeff you fellas are looking at a brand spanking new, first time rotary owner. I bought my car just a week ago from a friend who is moving from Alaska to Las Vegas, and HE had just bought it a few months before. It was gonna be his project car, and now it's mine.

My new baby is an 83 gsl, it has about 150,000 miles on it and still runs pretty well. It's got a few issues that I can't tweak out, but I've got a spare 12a that's gonna get street ported with a half bridge, gonna get everything bad replaced, and make the thing purr. If I love how it sounds when it's not working right, I just can't wait 'till it's running great.

As for me, I'm not terribly mechanically inclined, I'm more the computer type, but I love figuring out what's wrong and fixing it in my car. I'm 23 this month, I work helpdesk for the Army National Guard here in Alaska, love my job because it makes me enough to buy my car and fix it up .

Oh yeah, and I'm not a rx-a-holic, I can quit any time I want....

Honestly...

No, I'm serious...

K, I'm gonna go drive my car now.

Talking Hey there.

Adam Wade, new owner of a well-loved 1985 GSL-SE. Has Racing Beat springs (unsure if it lowered the car at all) and Tokico Blues, but is otherwise apparently stock (unsure as well of the muffler, although the exhaust is so quiet I doubt most of it is non-stock).

Motorcycles are more my forté, as I have bene in the industry for over a decade. I write for several motorcycle magazines, and shoot for a few others. I also wrote "The Motorcycle Fuel Injection Handbook", published by Motorbooks International.

Looking forward to getting to know the community, and asking a whole host of n00b questions on this very different engine technology, and quirks of the cars themselves. At least I am a quick learner.

I welcome any motorcycle questions (PM would probably be best for those), look forward to your experience and knowledge on these cars and how to make them last (and be fun!). I live in the SF Bay area, although I am probably moving north up the coast shortly. Would welcome anyone local going for a drive in my FB to help me undersand what is normal, and what needs fixing...
