1985 GSL bought it off an old lady(@ only 95,000 km) who only drove it two winters. then when a problems started I brought it into the dealer (couldnt help me), and then another shop, at 120 000 km I have no compression on two faces of the rear rotor, and a wing nut that vanished from inside my air cleaner after the second shop got a hold of it.WTF, no wonder there aent many 7's around here.

BUT I STILL HAVE MINE!

msd 6a booster on leading coil, 2 x blaster 2 cioils
glass moon roof
interior colour accents
all sitting in my basement
rebuilt engine, ported street/minor bridge
webber 48 IDA, with matched inlet
RB street port full exhaust

still need to order
good hd clutch kit
fuel pump/regulator
and lots more to come

I'm jake, my sister bought a first gen for her first car for no other reason than a car. she was 16 and I was 13 and when I seen it i fell in love. when she got tired of the carb problems and the rear-end whinning, she wanted a new car and i told my mom to save her old car for me until i can drive it. so she got some POS *shes been through 4 cars now since she was 16 till 19* so i started fixing it. found a rear-end and put it all in myself on my own. with ahrdly any knowledge. and started driving it before i had a license. fixing it making it faster racing all of it. slowly i learned the rotary. then i met paul from himni racing, and he crammed me with info, so now i know way too much about rotarys and engines in general for a 16 year old. but alot of it came from paul, he taught me how to cut rebuild ****, weld and almost any engine related thing you can think of. and i love him for it. now i have 36 points on my record and lost my license. been to jail for driving with no license also. been in a reck that i ran away from *lol* and i also hit a pig. *no like a boar thing not a cop* so now my front end is green lol.. and the rest of the car is blue. I also dropped out of school. so now im unemployed getting money however i can and making my car faster. recently i got enough to purchase a JDM s5 13bt that i will be putting in my first gen. but yet again, none of it would have been possible without paul.

Hello, my name is Tory I am new to the rotary motor. Just picked up my RX7 a couple of weeks ago. I am a night club manager is Ft. Walton Beach fl. Use to run around with a street racing crew is Mississippi until I blew a few motors in my dohc front wheel drive car. Got tired of it and bought a bike as my new toy and a truck to haul it around. Finally decided I wanted to get back into cars and went on the never ending search for what I REALLY wanted and I found it with this car. Looks a little rough but runs great. With my bad luck with vehicles I kinda hoped to find a diamond in the rough with this car. Luckily we hired a guy for security @ the club who happens to be part of a pretty bad *** rotary crew. Finally some good luck. He will be assisting me in most of the build as soon as his son gets out of the hospital. Can't wait.

Hello everyone. My name is Shawn and I too am a complete rotorhead. Baught my first RX-7 in high school and always owned one since. I am very good with rebuilding and porting rotary engines. Also love fabricating my own parts. I enjoy learning and having a unique car. I tend to speak little and work more,,thats why Ive waited sooo long to join this forum. My strongest ereas would be the internals of the rotary and annthing mechanical. Recently dove into the megasquirt and 99% of my posts will be on the megasquirt page. I've done almost anything possible to first gem's but the stand alone MS is new to me. Im in central NY so during our long winters I do the major changes on the RX-7. I'ts always nice learning from others with common interests and exchanging ideas. This is the best site for RX-7's ! Thanks to all who have informed me,Custom13B

hello

my name is Robert. you can just call me PJ. i'm 15 and living in Chehalis Washington.
I have a 1980 mazda RX 7 that i know nothing about (Better to start early right?).
the car belonged to my godfather and had been sitting for 15 years. Then my brother bought the car then let it sit for an additional 5 years then just recently "adopted" the car.
After 45 minutes of weed eating and 5 minutes of hooking up the tow cable and about 30 seconds of hard core 4 WHEEL DRIVE ACTION the car was moved and "restoration" began.

If someone could please tell me how to put pictures on here i would gladly show you my car.
Also any input/help on my RX 7 would be great.

thanks
PJ

My name is Jessica and I live in Houston. I'm about to turn 27. I used to drive my uncles 1979 rx-7 when I was a teenager and have always loved them. I still like the interior of his car better than mine, not only was his black but it's shape was much more classic, but I can't complain about mine. I've been a member for a few weeks now and I gotta say I love all the help the guys here have been giving me, ya'll are so cool!! Happy messaging!!

Okay, I'm really new around here but I just got my computer skills going, My Names Chris and heres the story. I bought my 1981 Rx from it's original owner for a nice chunk of change. I have the bill of sale from 1981 and so much documentation that I know everytime this guy farted in the car. It had a little over a hundred thousand on it and was garage kept. I pulled the engine and began a total overhaul, If Racing Beat sold it my car has it, I wanted it P-Ported but I needed to maintain some streetability, I was looking through alot of different forums seeing if anyone said anything about porting, the answer came in the J-port. So just so you know I am an ASE certified Automotive Technition, but I dabble in high performance modifications. So I did my own porting, The car laid down a dyno run last march and so far nobody beleives the numbers. I dont know about all that, all I know is the cars feel. I've driven more than my share of american muscle, Ive driven a 2001 Lamborghini Diablo 6.0 (that was a treat), and I've driven and worked on several Rotaries. I may be new but I am by no means ignorant. I do feel like I have been ignored to some extent and that is quite frustrating, I'm easy to get along with if I make a mistake you can correct me. Sorry if I'm not posting right or whatever I'm not a huge computer person, I've been visiting this forum for years and you guys have helped me immensly, thanks and see all of you around the board

I dont remember when I made this account, but I just now started posting on here

My name is Kevin, I have owned my 1982 GSL for one year on december the 27th, although I have only been able to drive it a few times, when we bought it, we didnt know that it wasnt running properly, and I couldent get a job without a way to get there, so I guess I was in a stalemate.

I am 17 years old, I got into rx's last year, before then was Nissan, untill my friend started talking about rx 7's. I didnt know anything about them, let alone what a rotary was. That christmas I noticed a strange looking car for sale in my neighborhood, and sure enough, it was an rx7. I have given up on my car a few times, and just tried to sell it, but I guess we where stupid for paying 1200 for a car that isnt exactaly in running condition, and my dad said we had to get atleast that much for it, and where I live, I doubt that would happen.

The interior is in pretty good shape, as well as the exterior, although I noticed that they repainted the car and I dont think they took the first paint off, and thats never good, but Im surprised it has held up for as long as it has. Sorry for the long post, it would have been longer but I stoped myself.

Hello everyone I am a new member as of today (12/04/05). My name is Jim and I have been a proud owner of my first RX-7 for about 3 weeks now. First about my car (proud daddy syndrome) I traded an 87 VW GTI 16v for the privilege of RX-7 ownership and have been having fun ever since. So far I’ve repaired most of the non-functioning electrical problems (Dome light, Fuel door solenoid, various exterior lights, Headlight operation and Cruise control). When I traded for the car it had 2 major problems, drivability - hard start, no idle, low power, a bad hesitation when driving (if it would start) and it sounded like the rear end was going to explode. I found that a combination of stale gas and only the trailing ignition system working made for a very unhappy car. Two axle bearings latter and the ride is smooth as silk.
Now about me, I’m an ASE Master Tech and have been for the past 20? Years. I have specialized in Japanese imports, working as a Journeyman technician for Superior Honda in Cincinnati Ohio and Sundown Automotive in San Diego California. (By the way if anyone out there knows Sundown please drop me a line.) After a few years as a service manager with Goodyear I began my new career as an Automotive Instructor. I started by teaching automotive electronics as an adjunct professor for Cincinnati State. Currently I teach the automotive technology program for C-TEC in Licking County Ohio. I’m looking forward to participating in your forum and have loved what I’ve seen so far!

My first post

Hi, Folks,

I just joined up and wanted to introduce myself.

I'm 28 years old and I live in Snoqualmie, WA. I currently drive a 2002 Subaru Impreza WRX. It is a great car and has brought back the joy of driving for me. My previous cars were a Subaru Outback, Honda Civic, and a Mazda B2600i pickup. Not much excitement driving those. The other thing that the WRX has driven in me is an interest in modifications and car work. I've started doing my own work on this car, maintenance and some minor mods. I've done a strut/spring swap and catback exhaust. It's not much, but I enjoyed turning the wrenches.

Here's why I'm here: my dad used to drive a 1983 RX-7. I think the color was Havanna Brown. He stopped driving it in 1998(?) when he picked up a Toyota Camry. Since then, it has sat in the driveway aging. I think it's had a bird's nest and a wasp's nest at some point. I think at one point, the bird's nest was in the driver's door and the wasp's nest was in the passenger's door at the same time. Anyway, I've always wanted to learn how to work on cars and I thought I would buy a 1967 Camaro and start there. Earlier this month, I was looking at my dad's car and a lightbulb went on. I said to my self, "Self, we have found a project car!" There are a few cool things about taking on this project, first, I get to learn about working on a car. This won't necessarily translate directly to my Impreza, but it will give me the confidence to work on cars. Second, I get to restore my dad's "baby". He'll be excited to be able to drive it again. That's worth something in my book. Third, I get something to feed my obsession when I'm not snowboarding and the NASIOC.com forums are slow (North American Subaru Impreza Owner's Club, just in case). The other cool thing is that my parents will pay most of the bill. I'll probably have to chip in when I want to go beyond just getting her running.

That's me for now. So far I've been checking out the forums here for a few hours and there seems to be a lot of good information. I look forward to reading your posts and hope I can contribute some information over time.

Joel

edit: I didn't realize that was so long

well, lemme just say wlcome to you. im a noob here still but i do love the rotary engines. i think that you will find working on these cars is not much differrent from working on any others. you still have nuts and bolts that get turned and torqued and most of the stuff works the same a a reciprocating engine vehicle.

Hi Everyone.
My name is Mario. I'm from the Chicago area, am 44 years old, work in the computer field (database administrator), married 21 years and have 4 boys. I own a 1984 GSL-SE with @39K miles. Everything on the car is stock and original (except for the original Pirelli P6's which I replaced this past October). I purchased the car from a friend of mine when it had @2K miles back in the spring of '85. He ended up getting a company car and decided to sell it. It is black, 5spd, maroon interior, a factory air dam (w/fog lamps), rear spoiler, sun and moon roof.. I've been tempted/asked many times to sell the car (not very practical with 4 kids) but I can't bring myself to part with it. The car is always garage kept and covered. Over the years I've toyed with the idea of upgrading different parts of the car (suspension, exhaust, etc) but never followed up on those ideas. Now it's gotten to the point that people tell me not to modify the car because of its age, mileage and the fact that everything on it (except the tires) is original. I've always had a second 'daily" car (one that can hold the entire family) which explains the low mileage on the SE. Well, that's pretty much it. Take care and happy holidays.

Well, let's see............how many other females are on here? Rally up girls! I presently have an 85 GLS 12 A Racing beat street ported 4 barrel intake manifold and Holly 600 CFM carb, exaust including header, mid-section with resinators tail section with the street muffler. Racing sway bars, beat street-strip springs. ROH 4 lug RX-7 wheels wrapped in 205/50/ZR15's. I have raced with SCCA for 12 years, in Fla. and Ga. I love rotary's, have had 4 different ones, and absolutly love them. I am a Deputy Sheriff, thankfully, cause I have gotten out of a lot of tickets by showing my badge......(jk) (not!) I am a single mom with a 3 yr. old. I am 37 yrs. old, and feeling every year of it on this site, reading all the other ages on here, it's great to see all the younger people so enthused about their cars. That's about it. Thanks for listening, and don't speed out there, you might get a ticket. Save it for Autocross............

Hello everyone, my real name is Keith. I've grown up around RX-7's, they are my father's passion. But as a kid I never really got into it that much, well now I'm 16 and I own a 85 gsl-se. It has a blown apex seal though and some interior/exterior work that needs to be done. Doing lots of reading on the car in an effort to learn as much as I can, which is why I'm here.

Hello all,
You may have seen one of my two posts before now. So far I've been spending most of my time on this forum reading up on all the information already here. I got an 85 GS last summer and recently got it registered and on the road (I took it out when no one was watching with the tags from my other car, shhh). My only other experience in automotive work is on the first car I ever owned, a 68 VW bug that I got running and did some basic body work on. So with that in mind please forgive me for any stupid questions. I will try to make sure that I read up on whatever I'm asking before I post a simple question.
Aside from that side of me, I am currently a student in Asheville NC, my hometown that I haven't been able to escape from yet. At some point I hope to combine my FB with my other interest, computers, and install an onboard computer and see how I can tie it in with the system. Anyone know if this has been done with a first gen. before?

Im Shawn,
Usually Im in the megasquirt forum,Im converting to stand alone finally. I've owned several first gems and there isnt much I havnt done or tried to do with them. I check the first gem forum often and have recieved a lot of good tips from fellow rotor heads. I dont post here a lot because usually the question is already answered by the time I read it. I have noticed a lot of guys are quick to laugh at others,so I think thats makes people nervous about posting. Thats not the idea, everyone starts somewhere right. Anyways I finally figured out how to post pics so heres a old one of my current project.

Guess it's my turn to chime in. My name is Austin Lawless, and i just recently bought a 1984 Rx7, base model. It's got a straight body and a perfect interior. I bought it with no motor or tranny, and it will be receiving a H.O 302 and a T-5 Swap soon. (please don't flame me too bad, i know most of you are Extremely loyal to the ol' wankel.). The guy i bought the car from is selling me a rear chunk from a rear disc rx7 for $50 so it will have LSD before it's on the road, and for $100 he is selling me rear ground control lowering springs, rear Tokiko Shocks, and front strut inserts. Btw, the guy raced Fb's competitively and is getting out of it, so he has lots of parts for me . oh and he has a cage (6 or 8 point can't remember) that i will be buying for $100 also, it will probably be installed later in the project, after it is on the road (i want to see the difference.) See you guys around the board.

-Austin
