There are many things that are more practical to remove than your air conditioning.
Most of the easy to resolve items have been mentioned already, eg.: rats nest, factory headers, catalytic converters/heat exchangers, fan clutch to electric fan. Even exchanging your old coils for new ones, changing your spark plugs to specific purpose items, changing engine oil/transmission fluid/differential fluid can yeild results that you may not feel in the seat of your pants but you will notice over time. By that I mean possible improvements in idle, response, efficiency, and reliability.

Just take the next four or five weekends and tackle small projects. Changing your oil one week, next week your coolant (I have my own "proper" way, everyone does), third week your transmission, differential fluid, and coils, fourth week you clean your distributor inside and out, dielectric grease your ignition leads, and install new spark plugs.
Spread things out if you're short on time or money, but never wake up and try to do everything in one day. Take a few hours to work and the rest of your weekend to play.

That's because you Lancer weighs a lot more than your 2400lb. RX-7. It may have more power, but I'd be willing to bet it weighs close to 600lbs. more than your FB....

The biggest single improvement on a rotary motor is replacing the restrictive exhaust with a header system. Does not affect reliability at all but does increase Hp to the tune of around 25HP on a 12a with the Rb header system. The rats nest is just a clean up thing and usually yields running issues at first. The smog pump is removed when you install a header and the aCV is blocked off.

Yea My 7 is registered in FL, which has NO type of inspection, and no emissions testing. And yea I forgot about the whole weight of my lancer and 7 thing...dumb dumb me. Big Smoke I like the idea you said, cause why do it all in one day when you can spead it out, not only would that be GREAT on my wallet, also more to do.
