General Newbie Question...
I just bought a 1982 rx-7. How would i find out if it is a gs,gsl,gsl-se? the previous owner that i bought the car off of said it was a GSL, would there be a way to find out just by looking at the car?
I got another question, how would you find out if it has LSD or not? I already tried doing a burn out and it left two marks. How would i find out for sure... because i had a one leger civic and it made two marks also so i don't know??? Can anyone help me out? POST!

If you search for the forums you will come across a plethora of information.
GSLs have the LSD, and if your's is a GSL lift the hood up and look....does it have a big blue circle airbox? Look for the GSL badges that are on the b pillars on the side of the car.
You can also take the VIN and post it in the VIN lookup section of the forums and see what the reports say.

I have another question for you guys...What basic mods would you guys recommend me getting that doesn't cost too much $$$? My car is "BONE STOCK" and runs like sh** When i drove it home the other day on the freeway and i dropped it into 3rd gear it wasn't accelerating as fast... it ran as if it would run from 0-60 in like 15 sec. Is that normal for a fully stock 82 rx7? I probably just gotta hype up that motor...what do you guys think?

Bone stock...sounds about right to me. Play with it, and have fun. Also look at the FAQ section for some preformance mods, mmmm porting...
One thing you will learn here is this.....SEARCH!!! No question is a dumb one but it may have been asked before. Always do a search before you go asking a question like, "How do I make the carb secondarys mecanical?" It is in FAQ. Oh yea and did I mention SEARCH!!! Ok I'm off my soapbox.

Nice place to begin is check for all the oil leaks, fix them, chg all the fluids, the dizzy cap and rotor along with the plugs. Need to change the fuel filter also. Now see how it runs and work your way up from there. They are fairly simple to work on, believe me, or I would be lost. I have done a lot of restoration on mine. Swapped motors, replaced tranny seals, removed the rats nest, rebuilt the carb, replaced the clutch, installed stainless steel brake and clutch hoses, redone door panels, exhaust with headers. The list goes on and on, but believe me, it's worth the effort, they are a hoot to drive. Have fun...

i think you've got a GSL, and don't sweat the mods. just yet. give it some time and get used to the car. you know if pieces are missing, replace them. trim pieces, dome lights, that kind of stuff and get it all working. remember it's only 100 horse power, keep an eye on the oil and the coolent. you've picked a car that demands
alot of attention from it's owner. don't spin it up, mad'yo and keep the fluids topped off and these things will almost run forever.

Do you have disc brakes in the rear? If not I think it's GS, if so I think it's a GSL with LSD. You can test the LSD by holding one rear wheel and trying to turn the other...
Or accelerate heavy through a sharp corner and the LSD may chirp/grind a little. They don't all do it though, but if it does you'll know it's LSD and that it's working.

I have a GS that has the original LSD with disk brakes. It was an option on a GS but there probably aren't very many around. It has the manual windows with no sunroof but it does have cruise control and power mirrors and no rear wiper.

Don't give too much consideration to the specific designation. The S, GS, and GSL markings are just optional trim packages and the individual components can easily be added or removed as you prefer. (It is not as easy to get rid of the sunroof but it can be done.) Most of the options were available on all models, i.e. it was possible to buy a new RX-7 GS model with disc brakes and LSD as options.

hey mark perez, i was wondering around how much did it cost you for the gsl LSD? Also, how much does it cost to put it in? Would it be easy to put it in myself?
I think my rx7 doesn't have lsd because it has rear drums...darnit! But it was weird cause it made two marks from the burnout....
