Gen 1 Bogging then No Restart

Hey all,

Hoping I can get a couple leads on where to trouble shoot first.
My Dad had a 79' that he stripped down and raced SCCA way back in the 90's. Since then we have gone through and gotten it back to running.

Starting it back up this summer, it started and idled good. I went for a quick joy ride and by the end was bogging a bit when I was hitting the gas.
I got out and was doing a manual throttle while looking at the fuel going into the carb (Weber 48). It sounded super boggy. It has a 12A street Port motor.

Shut it off. Then now there is absolutely nothing when I go to restart. The fuel pump will cycle then when I the started button it has a small click but no crank whatsoever.

I am thinking Ignition/Distributor/timing something? But would love if anyone could give me a couple leads on what to trouble shoot first!

Huge thanks in advance. Kelby

Sounds like the starter/solenoid. Have you tried push/bump starting it?

I had the starter/solenoid thought as well. Also need to check overall battery voltage. Good point about trying the bump start!

I think what is throwing me off is the bogging lack of throttle response just prior to it all of a sudden not cranking/restarting.
The starter shouldn't affect that.... So that's where I was thinking electrical someplace else?

Job one is to get it cranking/starting. Then the other systems can be reevaluated.

First and most likely; dead battery.

Throw it on the charger and try again later. The bogging could be related, as the weak spark ignition on these cars needs a good battery to charge the coils, good grounds to carry the current, and good plugs to fire the mixture. Starting with a good tune-up will get you most of these things, with troubleshooting of anything later that doesn't seem to work right, or if power is down. That particular carb setup is known for being temperamental,...

I finally got back around to getting this hooked up. Picture below. Left large Red wire is Power which comes from battery/kill switch. Right Smaller Red heads up to what looks like a relay then to a bunch of wires and alternator. Right side peg has the small braided wire that connects to the actual starter. In this Setup, absolutely nothing on the dash for power or turnover. Left peg hits 14V (Same as the Braille battery at the battery). Right peg nothing. I did briefly bridge the left power peg to the center terminal which I think heads to the ignition on the dash and the start spun a little. Anyone have ideas for what I should troubleshoot next?

That extra smaller red wire isn't normal. You might be energizing the strater at all times. Also, make sure that yellow trigger wire is not touching the big red battery wire.

is there a small brown panel on the driver's strut tower with 3 wire loops sticking out of it? those are your fusible links. check the main one.
