Unhappy well its up and running now more problems. help would be nice :)

specs to help for my question:

88 6 port 13b motor
mild port
RB manifold ported
Webber 48 IDA (ida is down draft right?)
I think the fule pump is from a 12A
RB headers w/ pre

hey, i just got the motor back together, put every thing in fired it up, got it to idle at 1k every thing sounds good. give it some gas and it studders then picks up. but its back firing though the carb (spiting up gas). a lot, and around 4.5k the powerband levels off and its like theres no pick up what so ever.

i know my timing is not correct but its as good as its going to get doing it by ear and with no timing gun. i will have a timing gun tomarrow but i dont think timingi is the cause of all these problems.

P.S. i am an idiot so please no flames just some help would be nice.

sounds like you need more gas, I think that stock 12a fuel pump should be struggling with that setup, but that is just my 2 cents

i was thinking that also

tuning the carb would help too

alot of 48's are pulled from VW's and arent retuned for a rotary, so i have been told!

Time it, then mess with the carb...

So far, hows the power?!?!

And did you just rebuild this motor, and you are already spining it to 4.5K+?!?!? Sheesh, I hope it doesnt mess anything up that bad!

Laterz, Andrew

Get the timing right first and go from there. There's really no point in doing anything else until you make sure the timing's correct. After that you might want to find out what's in your carb (ie, venturi size, emulsion tube, main air, main fuel, idle jets) and see if it needs adjusting. And get a decent fuel pump.

Spitting back through the carb means your fuel mixture is weak or your timing is off or both. So like REVHED said, make sure your timing is spot on then adjust your carb if adjustments are need afterwords.

ok thanks i will do the timming tomarrow. and then reset the carb.

sorry for the confusion when i said "put the motor back together" i was not reffering to a rebuild. i blew the front cover gasket and had to replace it as well i replaced the alt, starter, radiator, and clutch.

thanks for the help, i will try and resolve this tomarrow. soon my POS will be road worthy again.

the power is ok, i know the car should be faster, around 4.5k the power basicly stops and it just dosent pull, so my assumption was lack of gas. not to metion the timming.

any whoo thanks every one for the help i will post what i did and how every thing turned out tommarrow.
