Gearbox Shifter Modification

I am trying to get the shifter from a 89 TII tranny into the stock location on an early style Mazda. Has anybody done this modification on a TII or late style tranny, so that they did not have to cut their trans tunnel on their first gen?

I do not want to cut the tunnel, so I am looking for a way to move the shifter forward to the stock location.

Any help or suggestions?

David

you just have to swap on the complete upper FB shifter rod housing. There should be something in the archives about it.

73 RX 2 but the idea is the same, and the distance is the same as an early first gen.

sorry, I thought you were talking about a FB.

Mazda only started using a remote shiftr box in the second series RX-7. So fitting it would make it a real pain in the ***.

Now, I my dad used to have an RX-2 and the transmissions are built much like the strength of the TII ones. It might be easier to find a way to get the bell houing to what ever engine your planning on using.

If you are still using an RX-2 engine, or a similar engine from the 70's, swapping the transmission would be a waste of your time. There would be little of no gain.

This is a turbo II swap. Trans is an 89 TII. The tranny has the remote shifter box.

This modification has been done before. I just have not seen anyone do it here in the US.

If you have modified a TII tranny to get it into the stock location on your first gen, can you please let me know how you did it, and what all would be required.

Well they can be modified to fit a FB, but they wont fit an SA with out a whole bunch of fab work. It be much easier to retro fit your current transmission.
