GA "Gasket" around taillight 81-85?!?

Anybody have any ideas on how to replace or find a set of the gaskets that run around the outside of the taillights on 81-85s and seal to the body??? One of mine is toast and I am told they arent available from Mazda anymore....

Use some dumdum rope caulk. Tar like "snakes" of semi sticky moldable caulk. I used it to make a new tail light seal. Should be available at an auto body supply.

If your talking about the foam gasket, I would just use some of that adhesive foam door weatherstripping you can get at almost any hardware store. Cut a length to fit properly and your done.

Mazdatrix shows the seal as being discontinued, so no luck there.....dont think dumdum would work, on the 81-85's you actually see the gasket, it acts almost as a finish strip around the outside of the taillight....not sure how the foam door weatherstripping would work, but might be what i try if I cant come up with something else....

This might do the trick, but I haven't seen it in person:

Ah, I thought you were talking about the foam gasket between the body and the light.

Barron, I should have what you need (the outside black rubber strip that goes around the outer edge of the light and seals it to the body) in decent shape, you can pick them up when you get the headliners.

Ray......boy am I gonna owe you big time! Thanks again! Any parts you need that you cant find? I have access to 2 84's here locally that have some stuff left.....just pilfered a choke setup off one of them today. Of course, the taillight gaskets were shot on both as my luck would have it. One of them actually has a 12A in it that was running til somebody took the distributor out of it....guy wants 400 for the complete motor....

Ah this is why I was confused about things. What you need is simply the rubber trim, it doesn't act as a gasket at all. There is a foam gasket between the light and body that isn't seen, and this is what I think everyone thought you were talking about.

It is kinda confusing....mazdatrix has them under their "taillight seals" section, so guess thats where i came up with gasket... but technically they are just a trim piece....now speaking of the true gasket, should i run something on it to be sure the old gasket seals??????? And I thought restoring 67-69 camaros was bad back when I was doing them....at least they have parts available....i dont think there is a part on one of them you cant get nowadays, including a whole body....
