Gas tank sump

hey guys, I just bought a house and will finally have a garage I can work in , my last "shop" was a driveway in a trailer park . So in the next few weeks I will be sumping my gas tank and installing 3/8" bungs for my new 3/8" turbo gas lines. Where do i buy the weld in bungs?

You want to baffle that. I put one in my tank and on the rare occasion my gas ran low, everytime I braked I could hear the noise difference in my Holley pump when the gas sloshed foward and it was no longer pumping gas for the moment. Make a long story short.. my fuel pump crapped out the next day.

Yea, my fittings that come out of the bungs are all scrapped up on the bottoms from driving out normal driveways and such...

i sumped straight down first also and it was a mistake if you do it make sure you get the weld on attachment for a drop sump that sweeps to the front or rear of the car it will not only be safer but smarter if you dont want as much fuel surge and slosh.
My fuel cell with sender and foam only cost me 182 shipped from summitracing and its 16 gallons i much rather prefer this over my moded stock tank.

im not buying a sump, im making one. I just dont know what to use for the bungs, any ideas? Im pretty good at welding, and i have all winter to do this, so im going to wash the tank out and let it sit for a while before i weld on it. It will be baffled.

well if you can weld good you can just replicate a fuel cell now for the pipe fittings you can get some barbed fittings straight out like you would the screw in type then you can just run the hose to the tank with and hose clamp them. its easy to drill a hole and use the fittings just use nylon washers and some seal all to be sure you wont leak.

Just use weld bungs. Here is a Steel one from Jegs.

Here are all the sizes. Make sure you notice the difference between
the Steel and Aluminum Ones.

not near the amount of baffle we are talking im sure he is tryong to stop fuel surge if he wanted to do it easy he should buy the fuel cell foam from jegs or summit to push into the tank.

Man- in black... how did you mount your fuel cell and how do you fill it? I;ve been entertaining this idea as well.

If you guys are going to all the trouble of installing these sumps, why not do it right and use parts from the 2nd tanks and install an intank pump along with the sump cup. Works much better and more reliable than hanging a piece off the *** end of the tank where it can get torn up and cause a major fuel leak and perhaps even a fire.

All tanks are baffled. The SE tanks have a sump cup and a supply line is slightly larger than 3/8".

Well in my case it was a live and learn situation. Hopefully someone else can learn from what I have already done even if it's what not to do. It's not that low and after the first scrape I've learned to be super careful. The AN fitting is aluminum and took it pretty well.
