Gas Tank Problems...........

I'm getting real sick of smelling gas and dripping gas in parking lots and only being able to fill half tank.............................................. ..... My gas tank leaks when I take right hand turns and when I sit on angles that put the drivers side lower. I know it's not the sending unit cause I JB welded it in. lol What else am I looking at and how to fix it............ and if anything where can I get another tank, mine sucks.

Your gas tank leans?

Is it mounted properly?

Wow brain fried, cant read.

Park on an angle that makes it leak, stick your head under there and look where its coming from is my best advice for tracking down leaks.

you'll need to repair or replace the tank. i would remove the tank and wire wheel it to bare metal. you'll find some pin holes and maybe open up some larger holes as well. from here, you can have the tank professionally welded or you can choose to replace the tank. i have succesfully repaired tanks with pinholes by wire wheeling to bare metal, applying a rust converter to the bare metal, waiting 24 hours, duraglassing the pinholes, priming (zinc rich), and using a layer or two of zinc rich flat black and then undercoating the whole thing with a very nice undercoating made by 3M. no leaks at all.

There's also gas tank epoxy which works wonders from what I've heard.

Is $90 including shipping or what? Shipping can't be pretty for a gas tank. lol I thik i'd rather get a new tank instead of fixing cause I've been getting some crap in the lines from the tank.

It looks to me (from entering bogus data into the site until I reached the credit card piece), like that's $90 shipped.

Most of the 1st Gen FB's in the UK are now hitting gas tank problems. They pinhole and leak just above the tank seam on your driver's side, right where you can't get at it. New tanks are (were last year) still available from Mazda, for the UK 1985 12A certainly. I fitted mine this week - easy enough but tiring for an old guy! You have to drill out the 6 small sender screws to transfer the sender over as these are rusted up. Plus there's the fill pipe and the plate for the dip tubes on the tank top to transfer over.
My tank cost was £175, say $350.

I would pull your tank and check it out. It might be an easy fix. If not, I would recommend getting a good used tank and cleaning it up. I hope you have a fat wallet if you want a new tank.

84-85 style (including SE) = $463
81-83 style = $880

That does not include shipping, tax, etc.

Get the used tank and do a Por 15 treatment before you install it!

Do a search on Por 15, I did a real nice write up on it.

Check your nearest city for a place that reconditions tanks. They will clean it inside and out, fix and holes, seal it up inside and out for about $150. IIRC the pick up lines are permanently attached so you run the risk of plugging them if you try to seal it up yourself. The tank will be better than new when you get it back.
