Gas tank differences

Alright, I know the 83 and earlier tanks differ from the 84/85 12a tanks in that the pickup tubes are fixed on the old ones and are removable on the 84/5 tanks. But are there any other differences between the tanks internally? I realize the GSL-SE tanks are probably different because of FI, but I would think the 12a tank would be pretty similar, am I right? Thanks
Sean

The main differences are the size of the pickup tubes, intank finlter and the cup. Check out the pics I posted in the link.

ok thanks, seems the 83 and earlier tanks are internally the same, just have fixed pickup tubes. My 83 tank has a drain plug though.

Fuel Capacity Difference

No one here seems to have mentioned that there is a difference of several gallons in capacity. The 79-80 had a full size spare tire. At some point after that, they started using the space saver spare, not sure what year, and that provided more space for fuel. The 84-85 for sure had more capacity than the 79-80. Look up the specs and you can readily find the facts.

I built a convertible from junk parts, including the front of an 84 and rear clip from a 79, and ended up with a full sized spare.
