Lightbulb With gas mileage like ours, it's worth a shot!

This was forwarded to me in an email, I don't know if it really came from who it says, but who the hell cares. The plan sounds simple enough.

So please, read on.

Subject: The plan to lower gas prices

SOUNDS LIKE A GOOD IDEA TO ME (even if it did come from USC !)

Subject: THE FIGHT FOR LOWER GAS PRICES IS ON.. JOIN!!

We are going to hit close to $3.00 a gallon by the summer. Do you want

gasoline prices to come down? We need to take some intelligent, united

action.

Phillip Hollsworth, offered this good idea:

This makes MUCH MORE SENSE than the "don't buy gas on a certain day"

campaign that was going around last April or May!

The oil companies just laughed at that because they knew we wouldn't

continue to "hurt" ourselves by refusing to buy gas. It was more of an

inconvenience to us than it was a problem for them. BUT, whoever

thought of this idea, has come up with a plan that can really work.

Please read it and join with us!

By now you're probably thinking gasoline priced at about $1.50 is

super cheap. It is currently $1.97 for regular unleaded.

Now that the oil companies and the OPEC nations have conditioned us to

think that the cost of a gallon of gas is CHEAP at $1.50-$1.75, we need

to take aggressive action to teach them that BUYERS control the

marketplace....not the sellers.

With the price of gasoline going up more each day, we consumers need

to take action. The only way we are going to see the price of gas come

down is if we hit someone in the pocketbook by not purchasing their gas!

And we can do that WITHOUT hurting ourselves.

How? Since we all rely on our cars, we can't just stop buying gas. But

we CAN have an impact on gas prices if we all act together to force a

price war.

************************************************** **************

Here's the idea:

For the rest of this year, DON'T purchase ANY gasoline from the two

biggest companies (which now are one), EXXON and MOBIL. If they are

not selling any gas, they will be inclined to reduce their prices. If

they reduce their prices, the other companies will have to follow suit.

************************************************** *****************

But to have an impact, we need to reach literally millions of Exxon

and Mobil gas buyers. It's really simple to do!! Now, at this point...

keep reading and I'll explain how simple it is to reach millions

of people!!

I am sending this note to about thirty people. If each of you send it to

at least ten more (30 x 10 = 300)... and those 300 send it to at least ten

more (300 x 10 = 3,000) ... and so on, by the time the message reaches the

sixth generation of people, we will have reached over THREE MILLION

consumers!

If those three million get excited and pass this on to ten friends each,

then 30 million people will have been contacted! If it goes one level

further, you guessed it..... THREE HUNDRED MILLION PEOPLE!!! Again, all

you have to do is send this to 10 people and DON'T purchase ANY gasoline

from EXXON and MOBIL. That's all.

If you don't understand how we can reach 300 million and all you have

to do is send this to 10 people.... Well, let's face it, you just aren't a

mathematician. But I am... so trust me on this one.

How long would all that take? If each of us sends this email out to ten

more people within one day of receipt, all 300 MILLION people could

conceivably be contacted within the next 8 days!!! I'll bet you didn't

think you and I had that much potential, did you! Acting together we

can make a difference. If this makes sense to you, please pass this

message on.

PLEASE HOLD OUT UNTIL THEY LOWER THEIR PRICES TO THE $1.30 RANGE AND

KEEP THEM DOWN. THIS CAN REALLY WORK.

it would work, if everyone did it. i personaly buy all my gas at wal-mart/ murphees usa. as far as my town is concerned, if you buy a gift card, the gas is cheapest there. so every week i put some money on a gift card. i try to keep about $50 on it. its also easier to pay at the pump that way. just my 2 cents

Yea, while in theory that sounds nice, it won't work, gas is gas, it all comes from the same refinery's, and just distributed to different brand names. So even if you buy Sunoco gas your getting the same thing that you would if you bought Mobil gas. Its a pretty common thing that most industries pull. You go and boycott mobil and exxon, nothing will happen.

One problem with that plan is..... Exxon and Mobil don't exist in Canada :P but our gas prices are through the roof too. 81.5 cents a litre give or take. That's almost a goddamn dollar per litre (for convenience, 3.097$ per american gallon).

It's insane. I've been collecting petropoints on my card just so that when I have enough I can get that tank of free gas... I hope these prices go down soon. The plan above won't really work, since no matter which company we starve, they still buy oil to refine at x dollars per barrel, plus the price is like 80% gov't tax anyway....

So the real buggers we should be going after are the gov't. If their gas tax was half as high, I'd be paying 60c per litre, and much happier off.

If I could post freakin' pics, I show you guys where the oiul comes from for the various gas stations. I personally only use Phillips 66 and Citgo. Why? Their gas is made from oil stock that does not originate from the Middle East. I can honestly say I'm not supporting terrorism from that region. Plus its cheaper....Shell is the worst as far as importing Arab oil followed by Chevron/Texaco, then Mobil/Exxon....FYI...

Gas prices will be high this summer, then expected to return to *almost* normal late in the fall...
So just live it. Oil is not a renewable resource, there's no need to blame Exxon/Mobile or anybody else for a simple supply and demand problem. Less unneccesary driving might be the economic solution for us all.

We have the cheapest gas prices in the world, as well as the lowest road taxes.

$1.75/gallon? Yeah it hurts a bit to realize that it's going to be an extra ten bucks to fill the tank, but I'm still not complaining.

BTW - Instead of bitching, invest in headers and an MSD. Guaranteed 25mpg. Of course, the $400 you spend will take a loooong time to be paid for in cheaper fuel costs
