I used to get 22 regular as clockwork, but now I'm getting about 16. Only thing I can think of is the @!$# shutter Valve. It went out last year (car started ratty and ran rATTy until warm). So I put a plug in the hole in the base of the aircleaner that goes to the $#@%$#$% shutter valve and it runs just fine.
Could it be that stopping the #@!#@$% shutter valve reduced the mileage?

how many liters(yes yes LITERS I live in Canada) does a '79 tank have? Because I put 43 liters today and my needle was all the way at the bottom. I do know that my needle is fucked, but I wanna get an idea of how many more km's I can do before my car will die on me.

my haynes says it holds about 55L....
that seems huge though...
my Honda Prelude holds $25 of gas @ 74.9 cents per litre, making it a 35L gas tank....
55L seems big to me, but whatever, just means you can drive as far as my prelude in your RX-7

The '79 model has a 55 liter tank, or 14.5 US gallons, two less than the later '81 and up FB. My gauge reads empty on about 40 liters as well. I get about 15-16 mpg in basically pure city driving. That means I can get 210 miles from the 55 liter tank. My car is originally from Texas, so it reads in miles. Real pain in the ***.
I really haven't been on a highway run with this car yet, so I couldn't really say what the mileage would be, but I imagine that I would get ~25 mpg on the highway.

I followed my gas mileage for about 4 months and it averages about 18.1 mpg. As low as 16 and as high as 19. That's daily driving considering I sit in rush hour traffic to and from work all day. Open highway is about 26 with all the power crap the GSL has.
Oddly though, I discovered after about two months of monitoring my fuel mileage, that one of my ignitors was bad and the dist had been rigged to run off of only one. After I fixed it, my mileage didn't change at all.
