Angry car wont start pls hear my story (Manttis need yur help)

alrite i dunno wat the hell happened

but this is my story..

i got home..it was a nice day after college.. put her in the garage.. everything was fine..

i got my new lenses and white gauges today so i replaced my parking lenses to my new after market clear lenses that i got from rotaryrx7.com..

now being an automatic.. i put her on nuetral, took handbreak off.. and pushed her a lil bit so she could properly fit in the garage...

i didnt have time to put the white gauges on

i took a break.. and slept for about 3 hours..

i came back to the garage.. tried to start her.. but NOTHING!

no starter click, no engine motion, no sound etc.

NOTHING AT ALL!!

all the lights were still working.. it aint the battery or anything..

i suspected it could be the IMMOBOLISER.. (this damn thing)
so i switched her off then on again.. STILL NOTHING!

i took out the whole immoboliser switch and got a peg and touched the two wires together.. tried to start her.. AND STILL NOTHING!

i was like.. WAT THE F?

after 1 hour of trying to start her.. i gave up and thought of you guys right away..

PLEASE COME TO THE RESCUE

peace

IMPORTANT NOTE: Not that I have done that before.....

It's pretty embarassing when some guy I know, has to call his bro in law about the auto honda that won't start...dunno what "he" was thinking.. that "guy" still gets clowned about it now...

To his defense: he drives an SE that starts without depressing the clutch..good ol 84's

check the starter by jumping the terminals. If that works then you know it's the ignition switch... or the wiring.

I have a 5 speed and one day while parking it, my foot slipped off the clutch and it stalled. I put it in neutral and tried to start it again and NOTHING! I unhooked the battery cables, and then put them back on and the car started! To this day I have no idea what happened.

Do a search for battery cabels. If you don't find anything here search the net. There are several articles out there about the weaknesses in an 18+ year old ignition. The first thing to do in clean the connections at the battery and start well. Just doing this has fixed similar symptoms on my car.

might be a silly question, but what voltage reading are you getting? The lights (except headlights) will work on low voltage, but the starter won't turn below 9 or 10 volts.

Incideltally, while I'm flattered by your thread title there are several people in this forum as knowledgable, or moreso, than I when it comes to these cars

Check the ground cable that goes from the battery. A drop of as little as 1.5 volts in this cable can kill your starter. Also, that cable is subject to corrosion from the battery acid.

Ask Moses about corrosion on the battery cable. His car wouldn't start on the weekend, and we noticed excessive corrosion (a sort of white/green flaky mess) on the pos cable. We chopped off a few inches, then had to cut it AGAIN as the corrosion went a good 6" up the cable!

I stripped the wire and attached a new clamp. We reconnected the battery (after replacing the neg one too, since they came 2 to a pack) and his SA fired right up, no problems.

Well, still some carb problems but they were unrelated to starting & he solved those later

Yeah, battery cables can be really weird. As Manntis said, mine were corroded a ways up under the insualtion too. I stripped mine back and cut off the nasty, new terminals and no more problems. I also replaced the ring terminals and so on where it meets the chasis for the ground and the starter and what not though. I dont think that going that far is quite that neccessary, but it cant hurt .

If your car sometimes doesn't start from park but always starts from neutral then there is a definate problem with your inhibitor switch. It's under the car at the transmision where the shifting linkage hooks up.

Seems to me that you should start repairing the known problems and work your way to the maybes.

wow thanx heaps guys..

theres a mechanic coming over today..

i hope he finds out the problem..
i think its not only starting in park because its still a lil bit in reverse..

but if i push it hard up so it goes all the way up in park.. it turns

so its not the inhibitor switch

maybe it is the ignition

btw manttis.. the voltage is 12

Find my thread. Search for "End all to no start threads" with my name as the creator.

Now I know why y'all get kinda antsy when people don't search... I can feel my eyebrow twitching.

did you examine the battery cable ends? Moses had exactly the same symptoms with his SA. ONe day it would start, then (when the corrosion got too much) it wouldn't even click.

Okay now I'm gettting confused,... does it or does it not crank, or attempt to crank????

You said if you push it up hard in park it turns

Then your mechanic friend says inhibitor switch. Which would mean it didn't even attempt to crank.

If it's the inhibitor switch, then you can find it under the car at the transmision where the gear linkage hooks up.

I would short the switch and test crank.

no i didnt say if i push it hard it cranks?

i mean like if its in park.. before this happened...

now it wont start regardless if its in park or nuetral.. it just wont crank at all..

everything else works.. everything is lighting up..

plus he did go under the car.. and linked it.. and it did crank... so hes gussing it could be the inhibitor switch

oh and mantis.. what cables are you talking about? that need cleaning..
