gas cap cover

The button under the dash that releases the cover over the gas cap won't work. I can't find any previous threads. I hate to force it open. '85 gsl. Any thoughts?

I think it can be opened from inside the car. There should be a string or a wire. You may have to remove a few interior plastic trim bits.

Kinda hard to describe this but...
Open the rear hatch glass.. reach in with your hand between the plastic covering and the tail light towards the the gas filler area.. feel around for the latch, you should be able to flick it with your fingertip and the door will pop open

check your fuse. If that's good, pull the switch out of a junker (good luck, it's a bitch) and replace yours. I've done that.

As has been said above, on the drivers' side, in the hatch area, behind the speaker cover, you can reach your hand in, and about 3-5 inches rearward of where the gas fill door is, you'll find a lever. Pull that lightly backwards and voila - gas up.

Hey thanks! I pulled the little latch from the inside and it opened. It started working again after that.

If your SE has the key, then it's from an older car. The 83+ cars don't have the key hole.

My friend had the same problem with his . With the gas door open you could see the actuator working but it still wouldn't release the door when closed. We just had to do a minor adjustment on the tab inside that put pressure on the door when closed. We took a little pressure off of it so there was less resistance for the actuator to pull against and it has worked every since.
