fusible link

k...so i tried pulling my fusible link out to clean and its tough getting in there to get all that corrosion out...i tried best i could and although i've got better contact it still cuts off if i move the center link just a little...so i'm assuming the contact still isn't good...although its better than before

so my question...besides mazda where else can i get a fusible link block for my 84 gsl-se? also, i see mazdatrix has fusible links for 84-85...the black and the brown...but a gsl-se has more...is my only option mazda?

thanx

Junk yards rock! Get some contact cleaner to spray in there or use WD-40. The WD will evaporte but it will help you nail the issue.

I agree. LTProject on here made a fuse box for his FB turbo project. Turned out very nice and the engine bay looks more modern with it in there. I plan going the fuse box route also when I get the parts together.

SE's also use a Green Fusible Link for the Fuel Injection system (labeled 'INJECTION') that is rated for 0.5sq which is higher in current carrying capacity than the brown links (0.3sq). In other words, you can't replace green with brown and expect it to work, as it will likely burn out in a short period of time. Also, replacing with Black link (1.25sq rating) will allow too much current to pass and could burn out your fuel injection computer (ECU).

This information is straight out of the FSM for the 84SE. As a quick diagram, the following is a top-to-bottom representation of the link description, the color, and the rating;

(note: 13b RE-EGI engine, ONLY, 12a only has the bottom 3...)

INJECTION - Green link - 0.5sq rating
COMPUTER - Brown link - 0.3sq rating

(separate block, and common to 12a models, include)

RETRACTOR - Brown link - 0.3sq
MAIN - Black link - 1.25sq
HEADLIGHT - Brown link - 0.3sq

To ensure that you're providing the proper current carrying capacity and not risking damage to these systems, you should only replace the bad link with the CORRECT color and capacity. HTH,
