Actually the biggest drawback for RHD in North America isn't drive-throughs. You know how it is when you're trying to pass a motor home on a two-lane highway? When you poke your nose out just far enough to see if there's any oncoming traffic before passing? Can you imagine how far out you'd have to turn into the oncoming lane if you were sitting on the RH side of the car and didn't have a passenger? Somehow driving down the highway in reverse doesn't seem like the best option...

I used to have a RHD International Scout. It did not have A/C. It was much cooler on the "green" side of the highway. The other good thing was you didn't have to look at the other drivers. The dirty looks they gave you was directed at an empty seat!!! Definately convenient to pick up mail. Did go to the wrong front door most of the time too. Much scarier as a passenger......................

Yup. I can just see it--- you're sitting in the passengers' seat, the driver swerves left to pass, you see the oncoming semi before he does, and when you reach in front of you to grab the wheel to swerve back into your own lane there is nothing to grab.

We have the same questions over here for people who import LHD corvettes and such...
I can't imagine changing gear with my right hand, or entering an intersection on the "wrong" side of the road.. I'm right-handed, and I've always thought it's better to maintain a good grip on the steering wheel than the gear shifter.
You know, technically RHD is correct - originally, the British went with RHD because if two stagecoaches passed each other you could draw a weapon with your right hand and be "on guard". Same reason UK castles have stone spiral staircases that twist clockwise, they're easier to defend with right-handed people against invaders trying to climb them - much more reach with a sword.
I went to France a few years back and was up the front of a bus entering a roundabout, scariest thing I've ever done. I was waiting for the oncoming traffic to hit us... madness.

No whats really scary is this
When you come home on leave and drive on the wrong side of the road! after 20 years of living in Japan, I do it at least once every time I visit my family, scare the dickens out of my bro, and my Mom!

When I lived in the UK, I owned both LHD and RHD RX-7s at the same time. Driving on the "wrong" side wasn't really a problem; the RX-7 is a small car and it is easy enough to lean over for a better view. Nevertheless it is more convenient when the car is the correct side for the traffic. Driving off the ferry to and from the continent, I sometimes had to think about which side to drive on, if it was late at night and I was tired. Some places have big signs to remind you.
