Full Carbon Fiber Widebody Conversion Kit
Well fellows, the time is now. I had talked to Ryan from Extreme Dimensions and him and I came up with a deal. He will give me a replicated copy of my entire kit in Carbon Fiber (a $4000 value) along with an extra kit in regular FRP (a $1500 value). All for free in exchange for the mold of my kit so they can sell it. do you think this is a great deal or what??

Just make sure you have a very firm contract before you hand over those molds... Probably worth getting a lawyer involved to make sure it has been set up correctly. Good luck man...

Like mentioned above, You should try to get some part of the profit aswell... $6000 worth of body kits isnt that much of a special deal, considering they will now be able to sell those kits for years to come.
I'd get some type of proper contract with a lawyer if you want to do things right.

imo your body work put into a kit really 'dates' the other body kits right now. Its just almost too sexy.. rounded out FB .. i was half expecting parts to be blacked out like hawtness on my TV so that my expectations of other cars were not raised too high.. so not to lower the self esteem of other cars..

thanks guys!. actually i did ask for a certain percentage but he said:
"i have to be forward with you and let you know that we would not be able to work out a licensing deal on this project. we do not pay royalties for prototypes with customers."
but guys you know what, i did my part. i had learned alot and at the same time had fun building this kit and i am not one to be selfish. even though ive spent countless hours on this and shed so much sweat and blood, and also half killing myself for inhaling so much bondo, fiberglass, metallic particles in the air, i love to contribute to the community and so therefore, for you guys that are interested in this kit, you can have your very own. but the thing is though, you guys wont be able to have the Carbon fiber version like me. you guys are only getting the Duraflex FRP. sorry.
and anyways, you guys all know who made the kit. so if you see one on the streets of cali, and its fiberglass, then you know its just a replica. only the carbon one is the authentic and is driven by BLOWNandTWISTED.

While they may say that they can't pay royalties, the truth is they don't want to so they can maximise thier profits. Your design is your intellectual property and it belongs to you. For them to develope an entirely new kit from scratch, it would cost them a lot more than $5500.
You should copyright your design and demand a percentage of the royalties. After all, it's your BS&T that went into creating this kit, not thier's. You should get more reward for your effort than thier paltry offering. I would settle for no less than 5% of gross sales, preferably 10%.
To give you an example, look how long Mariah has been thier selling thier widebody kit. One can only guess what thier gross sales have been over the past 25 years.

Congrats on getting a hookup and getting a chance to show us all what you can do, but maybe you should look somewhere else before settling with these guys. If this company doesn't want to give you money, don't sell to them, find someone that will.

I'm with T. I would want the body kits + 10% royalty on sales. If they don't want to pay, find someone who will. There are quite a few companies in the body kit biz. Also consider that your car may be down for awhile (I know that it already is due to the project) due to the time it will take to make the molds and possibly use your car as a test fit vehicle. I also would include in the contact that they would be liable for any damage done to your car or the kit while it was in their care. Get a good lawyer to draw up a contract that will be signed before they ever touch the car. It is in your best interest to take this approach. Besides, consider all of the time and effort that you put into this. It is certainly worth WAY more than $5500 worth of parts in my book.

+1. Ditton on Trochoid and gsl-se addict. With all the hard work you put into it, definintely draw up a contract. You may say that it's okay now, but later on down the road you'll be kicking yourself in the *** wishing you had in the first place. Trust me, do it now.
A car done up like that is pure sex on wheels. I wouldn't mind having that kind of body kit. All that work you done, protect it.

Yeah, definitely write up a contract... I've known some guys that have been really screwed through deals like that... though usually dealing with technical equipment and a couple guitar designs... but i'm sure the same applies here.
Anyway, if you do sell the kit to a company, lemme know where!!!

It wouldn't hurt to shop around for other potential vendors. Research the reputation of the vendor for business practices as well as product quality. The last thing you want is some operation that gives you what sounds like a good deal, but produces crappy products that no one wants to buy despite the styling. Ideally you can shoot for a non-exclusive deal with cash and/or product payment, plus royalties, and retain all your IP rights to the design.
The kit looks good. I am concerned about the hood though. Are the scallop shapes open to the engine bay? If so, it looks like the one or two closest to the windshield are in the high pressure area. But since it's fibreglass, it shouldn't be too difficult to modify into a plain smooth hood.
Are you planning to get rid of your rain gutters and modify the door window frames? That would really help with the look.
