Question Fuel system upgrade options?

I have gone through the archive and done a bunch of searches. There is no real clear optios it seems every thred i have red has turned into some sort of debate that is way off topic.

My question is what sort of options are there for fuel system upgrade on a stock port 12A?

Its an '84 GSL

I am working on my mod plan. I am going to order the RB Street port exhaust system this fall, and I know the fuel system is the next on my list and I am just trying to make my plan

Thanks for the help everyone

How much money do you want to put in the upgrade?

Getting a new higher flow-rate fuel pump is a good one to have. Get a fuel pressure gauge, as well, it will help diagnose fuel problems in the future.

Cool thanks guys.

As for money I am not too concerned. I usually like to look at all my options and then find somthing that suites the aplication.

Does any one have any brand recomendatons or cautions? Like brands to look at or brands to stay away from?

Thanks again

There was a good picture-filled thread of what DirectFreak did to his fuel system. I have it archived here on my computer, but I can't find it on the forum or in the archive right now.... So DF, if you can grace us with it again until I can get back into my webspace on Monday and post it, that would be much apprciated. You have an Awesome System going there, and I'm hoping to get the same kinda thing going for mine next year

The basic gist of a good fuel system upgrade though is this:

A new reliable high flow fuel pump
A new, better quality fuel filter
A fuel pressure regulator in the engine compartment
And new lines

If money isn't the main priority, the Mallory Comp110 is much quieter then the Carter. I never heard a Holley, but its supposed to be loud too.

The Mallory line of pumps are also rebuildable and do not exhibit pressure pulses like all of the older tech, noisy, traditional fuel pumps out there...FYI

I installed a Mallory Comp70 with a Holley regulator. Works great! The pump is pretty quiet but my stock pump was absolutely silent. To dial it in you'll need a pressure gauge. 0-5psi gauges seem to be kinda hard to come by but I bought one from American Science & Surplus that worked real well. Here's the link to their Pressure Gauges. Cheap too! I hooked up the gauge to my fuel line and taped it to the ouside of my windshield while I dialed in the regulator. After several spirited runs I got it dialed in to about 1.5psi and lemme tell ya.... throughout the entire rpm range it barely budges.

The results? Well it defintely has more high end power. Before the fuel pump and reg it started loosing power shortly after 7k. Now she pulls real strong up to at least 7.8k.

mmmmMMMMMMMGRRRRRRRRRRRR .. *CHIRP* .. GRRRRRRRR
