Fuel Starvation????

well guys...went out to the ole drag strip couple nights ago, and was the first time i ran the widebody with the mikuni..and i gotta say i was a little upset... i continually had a problem with fuel starvation at the top o fthe track...about 6.5k in 3rd right before the traps it just leaned completely out to the point were i had to let off just to keep the engine running.. My first pass was at 4.5 psi of fuel (recomended setting for mikuni). the subsequent passes i raised the pressure to 6 psi and then 7.5 psi respectively but still ran out of fuel??? I don't get it... the only other thing i can think of is that i have the float level set too low or my needle and seat are too small I'm pretty sure my needle and seat are 1.8 and i beleive a 2.0 is recomended for our cars running a mikuni.. soo if anybody has some tips I'm all ears..thanks guys

ok thats different then. mine just started bucking like it wasnt getting fuel. it was an 84 though so when the ignitors starting acting crazy it started causing that annoying sensor(forgot the name) to stop sending power to the pump also. so technically i wasnt getting fuel or spark.

just figured id run that option by you. good luck on the problem.

oh yeah, you forgot to say what your times were?

Yes the 2.0 needle and seat is a start but it's also in the jetting.

Hey guys I have a problem in a 82 GSL 12a non-port w/the RB Holley intake setup the car had been screwed with by other people before hand and the car only has 61,000 original miles on it so i dont know if it's timing an ignitor going down or a fuel starvation! At low idle 1,200RPM th car runs great drives great etc. but, if the car is at idle and you rev it up using only primaries it revs up fine but then pops and sudders like it doesn't wanna go any farther once it hit 6,300RPM and when at idle if you push the pedal to the floor and the secondaries open it dies sometimes for a second other times if you don't get off the throttle it'll die! when by the carb and this happens it almost sounds like the carb is sucking alot of air and maybe theres just not enough fuel pressure from the stock pump...i dunno I really need help with it tho I'll try to get video of the car doing this but otherwise any ideas?

thanks scott....by the way since you've got a little experience with the mikuni any advice? Also Doc... I'd really like to get this mikuni dialed in i know there's more to be had there... short of buying a wideband, any tried and true methods for getting it tuned? I'm running the stock rec jetting..62.5 pilot 240 air and 200 main I believe.. I do get a pretty heavy smell of exhaust at cruise and the inside of my muffler tips turn black with soot after a day or to of driving...makes me think it's running a bit rich... I've read some posts on a old school Lotus forum where the guy describes how to tune a weber for drivabiliy/power and tried to kinda use the same process but when he got into drilling holes in the emulsion tubes i ran the oter way...lol
