Blue or Red (Holley) or Other?

Finally picked up my engine.

I got

12a engine / 5 speed tranny
Racing Beat header
Weber 40IDF carb / manifold.
Front bumper cover
Radiator

All for $400 Canadian.

Cleaned up the intake / carb and put it on the car temporaroly for ***** and giggles.

Need to rebuild the carb.

My next door neighbour Fred (my boss) and my other co worker Chuck put it in the work van. This thing is FRIGGEN heavy. They were asking
$500 but Fred knocked 100 off the price for me.

Manifold cleaned up nicely.

Blue or Red (Holley) or Other?

Here's my manifold. I cleaned up the mouths of the ports, to get rid of the casting flaws, and opened them up a little. Than I polished the outside.

Here's the manifold before "porting" compared to my mildly ported stock manifold.

Ports Before

Rough after

Smoothed out

Heres the out side polished. Not Super shinny, but alot better.

This is how it looked yesterday.

Did this really make that much of a difference in power / airflow...no, but I had nothing else to do on a rainy night after work.

Here's my carb questions with pics.

Will a rebuild kit come with a new one of these diaphragms? Cause this one looks toast.

There's 2 slots here for 2 cables...which cables? The main throttle cable off the pedel and the...hot start assist?

This is where my fuel line enters the carb, but there's 2 fuel lines that ran to the stock carb, so which one do I hook up, the left or right fuel line? And what do I do with the other line? IS it a return line?

What cable hooks up here to actuate this thing, and what is it?

There's 2 of these nipple on either barrel, is this where my OMP lines hook up?

And do I hook my brake booster vacuum line to this?

Sorry for all the pics, though you guys might be interested.

Looking good.

That last pic is for the brake booster line, The 2 cables might be hot start assist, but I'd really just take that system out.

a rebuild kit will come with all the parts you need and buy your rebuild kit from cb performance and buy their weber hand book and read the whole book it will make your rebuild much easier. trust me it is money well spent even though it is a book geared towards vw's.

Blue or Red (Holley) or Other?

Here's my K&N filter after one cleaning. This filter is probally over 15 years old. Picked up a K&N recharge kit at Canadian Tire for $12

Here's the water after one cleaning, look how dirty it is! I cleaned it 3 times before I was
happy.

After it dried I oiled it.

Here;s the housing lid before.

Than I took my grinder to it to get rid of the rust, slapped some Bondo on it, sanded my guts out and primed it.

Than painted it the same color blue as my stock intake. ( A Duplicolor high heat enamal.)

Cleaned an re gasketed the carb.

Here's the header after I took a wire brush to it.

After the mini grinder.

Duplicolor 1500 degree paint.

Put the intake set up on the engine just to se how it's gonna look. LOOKS BOOOOMB!

Here's my intake manifold after I polished it.

And do you guys think I should re use this gasket, it looks good to me.

Thank you sir! I really like how the blue turned out too. I was torn on what I was gonna do to it, and I have way too much flat black under the hood.

Blue or Red (Holley) or Other?

I know there are some Weber gurus out there, and Im just a 16 year old that needs help, so pease help.

The carb is a Weber 40 IDF.

First off, with the stock carb, there are 2 fuel lines that run into it, but on my weber there's only one port, which line do I hook up, and whta do I do with the other?

What cable do I hook up to this linkage and what do I do?

There are 2 of these nipples on either barrel, is this where I hook up mu OMP lines?

The stock cables running to the carb were, Throttle cable, hot start assist, choke and cruise, on the Weber there's only room for 2, throttle cable and...which other one?

Thanks in advance I'd really appreciate the help.

Throttle cable and I think choke are the only things you can hook up to it, so no need for cruise or hot start.

Those 2 nipples, not for the OMP. Dont know what they are for, but if you want to keep running your OMP, you can run the lines up and into the float bowls with the fuel. Drilling and tapping are necessary.

If there is only one line to the carb, then put the fuel hose in that. Remember to run a regulator. Webers like running about 3.5lbs.

Iunno, it looks to be in awesome shape to me, it wasn't stuck to the header, or the areas around the ports, it just slipped of, and its not torn or missing any chunks.

One is a return one is a Feed. I cant remember off hand which is the fuel feed. Worse comes to worse, turn the car on and off quickly and check which one is wet with gas.

The feed is the one closest to the passenger side of the car on the firewall.

just forgood measure... if you haven't cleaned/rebuilt that carb yet then youshould DEFINATELY do so... judging from the pics, that thing has seen some use, and a dirty carb in need of a rebuild will only lead to MANY headaches when it comes to starting and tunning. for the record I'd probably look into getting a bigger carb a 40 idf is a little small, even for a stockport 12a... 48 would be alot better choice.

I already had it all apart and cleaned it.

And Im lucky as hell that I fould this carb for sale locally. I'd never find another intake set up for sale around me. If a comapny made a intake manifold for the 40IDF to work on the RX-7...than it works.

Squeaky clean...well cleaner.

That carb looks like the ones that CarTech modified and supplied for use with their blowthrough turbo kits. If the nipple(s) that are shown in pic #2 are on the inboard side of the carb when it is mounted, then They Are for the OMP lines. The white plastic piece on the throttle linkage is for throttle cable (closest to carb body) and cruse control cable (closest to firewall). Check the bottom of the throttle control linkage for an extended arm. If the lower arm is extended and has a 1/4 to 3/8 hole through it, this is for a cable to connect via a through bolt to operate the OMP. The vacuum port(s) should be located on the outboard (passenger) side of the carb, one in each base flange, and possibly one in the rear barrel.. these are for distributor vacuum advance, surge valve, and rising rate fuel regulator. The number of vacuum ports depends on if the carb was originally supplied by CarTech (if it IS one of theirs) for boosted or non boosted use. Some only had the one vacuum port on the rear barrel outboard side of the carb.
CarTech also recommended that this carb be used with a high output fuel pump and a fuel regulator. Put the regulator before the carb feed, and connect the return from the regulator to the fuel tank return line. Fuel feed line is the larger (5/16th ) of the two metal fuel lines on the firewall. The smaller line 1/4" ) is the return line.

^^ Thanks for the great info. I hooked it up today and started it, but the accelerator diaphragm leaks like a sieve. Need a rebuild kit.

Im quite sure that I have the cab your talking about form Cartech. I'll snap some close up pics, maybe that'll help.
