I'm using the Carter 7psi unit with a Holley regulator and gauge. Very happy with it.

Hey REVHED, how much did your pump and regulator cost you? Did you notice a big difference in power? a drop in gas mileage?

Facet fuel pump from Racing Beat--no regulator yet. Gas mileage did drop, temps came down...I think it was because the original 30 year old fuel pump couldn't keep up and was leaning out past 4000 RPM. You're not supposed to need a regulator with this pump but it's clear the Nikki floats and needles are barely holding back a flooded carb situation right now. Grose jets were a bomb. They flat out couldn't stay seated even at idle with the floats applying severe pressure. Had to bend the tabs back for the factory needles supplied with the Mazdatrix kit to get the gas line in the middle of the window.

for the finacially challenged I have heard that you can put 2 stock fuel pumps inline. Has any one tried this?

No and I wouldn't recommend it. First, you'd have to modify the splash shield underneath to cover two pumps. Two, you'd have to split the amperage available for either pumps since you only have one power feed line popping out there. Granted, you could use that line as a relay and run a fat power line back there for the pumps but now you're spending money again. Lastly, two pumps in a row will not equal twice as much fuel volume or pressure. The second pump will have its input side at its potential max for having fuel available to pump but will still be the limiting factor in regards to its health. Two pumps in parallel is a different story but you still end up buying a lot of stuff to make it work. It'll all end up costing about as much as an aftermarket kit when all is said and done....

Electric is the only realistic option. A crankdriven fuel pump would be ideal since fuel pressure would rise with engine speed but you've barely got any room to begin with at the front of the engine. Really, you only need that kind of a setup with big injected fuelies, anyway. It's overkill for a carbureted engine...

but carbureted engines generally have mechanical fuel pumps. it is fuel injected that usually go electric.. atleast, that is what my understanding is.

On older V8s and such that's generally true. A lobe cast onto the camshaft provides a surface for an arm to ride up and down providing pumping motion for a mechanical style pump. No cam in a rotary. Big fuelies will have it mounted like an alternator driven by a cogged belt or such with the crankshaft providing rotational services. All RX7s have used an electric pump since day one from the factory. It's located at the back underneath basically in front of your driver's side wheel. Click the switch to IGN but don't start it and take a look. You'll hear the clicking beast if your rex is still a runner...

Carter pump, Holley regulator, and YAW carb. Very nice setup. The Carter pump is High volume, low pressure. The only drawback is that it is VERY loud. I mean VERY VERY LOUD. I plan on taking it loose someday and using some rubber spacers to mount it to the frame rail. But I think that I will wait until spring.
I run 2.5lbs of pressure as per Paul's recommendation. No problems.

got a holley red pump myself. my mechanic found a screwed up valve that was causing my earlier probs. works great now. it's running to a dellorto 48 sidedraft. i keep it at 4.5 psi and it runs great. not too loud either. i'm guessing those little rubber mounting gaskets take out a LOT

I bought a holley blue pump for my 48 IDA. I also got the fuel pressure reg. I got the pump off ebay for $36 and $20 for the reg. Any ways the blue is like 110 GPH. Stock fuel pumps for most of the rotary'e were about 12-20 GPH so that tells how good my gas mileage is going to be. But then again it's a P Port 12A, so who cares about milage this is for power. Any ways thats what I use.

Purolator $30 special!

Hey don't knock 'em... you just have to know how to use 'em. You have to ELIMINATE the return line, then install a pressure regulator because they are too high stock. (like 4-7psi) Hey, they supported fuel enough to get WT into the low 15's... the stock pump fuel starved at about 16.6 :o
