Fuel pump Q... AGAIN

Hey everyone,

Got my used Racing Beat Holley kit installed a couple months ago. Clearly the stock fuel pump falls on its face with this combo.

I've looked around and did some searches on this site.

I want to go with the Holley pump and regulator setup. I can't figure out which Holley setup to use: the "blue" max pressure combo, or the "red" standard pressure setup. The blue doesnt supply below ~4psi. Will a red kit be enough for my carb and intake setup? the engine is street ported BTW.

what headers do you ppl recommend with this setup? The racing beat system looks nice, but i've heard it's heavy.

Thanks all, later

Yep, I believe the blue does come with a regulator. It's loud as well? I dunno if it is worth it to spend 2x the price to make it quiet (mallory). Guess I'll just get another carter and a holley FPR.

BTW, can someone point me to the fuel gauge sold by Yaw I keep reading about? Does he have a phone number or e-mail?

What a shame...I wish I had been watching this thread earlier...the place to spend the bucks is fuel delivery, cooling systems and ignition. Don't skimp or pay the price when McRicer's Integra GSR rolls up and pops you at the light, laughing as his monster 5" tach lights up at his measly 7000 RPM redline. All cuz ya saved yerself $70 on a one-time purchase...makes me wanna cry...

Well make a suggestion then! jeeesh!

Honestly, the holley blue looks as good as the carter everyone recommends - and I'll have a FPR and FPG as well. Much better than stock, which couldn't keep up with the holley carb.

You will have no problems whatsoever with the Holley Blue. It will supply more than enough fuel for any rotary carb application. The only drawback is maybe noise which isn't a problem if you have an aftermarket exhaust anyway.

Aaah, ok! I read it the other way.

Can't wait to get this installed! I'm heading down to the Indianapolis RX-7 Meet on the 23rd. Gonna put the car up on a mustang dyno and do some tunin!! That is, if all the wrenching goes well....

What kind of rear-end you have in your 1980 mar3? Do you have any pics of your rear wheels and tires?

Someone put a posi in it that's starting to slip now, so I've located 4 rear-ends in my favorite boneyard that have the disc setup I lust for and, hopefully, a decent LSD pumpkin. It's got drums now. I'll post an artsy pic of the rear on Wednesday before I go "shopping".

Hey Crafoo,

Let us know all about it when you get the RB Holley setup all dialed in. I'm interested to know what you think of it, as I've seen very few online reviews of the setup. It's weird, you'd think many people would be running it since it's the one currently sold by RB. Maybe I've just been looking in the wrong places.

I had a carter installed on my car, and yes it was loud but... its an external fuel pump and its flowin a good amount of fuel so rightfully so its gonna be loud... and with my RB Streetport Exhaust System anything over 1500rpms just totally drowned out the buzzing of the fuel pump with pure rotary bliss

So.... for $54 for the carter from Summit i definately didnt feel ripped off... also the carter is what Paul Yaw recommends or the holley...

It's because Paul is probably unaware of the Mallory, Aeromotive, Granatelli or SP pumps. Like everyone else, he's just trying to get his racing done on a budget (which is not a bad thing...) and goes with the tried and true race stuff that all the old schoolers use...

Question mallory, carter, holley

I have to make a decision soon too...

Serzy which FPR do you recommend for the Carter? Summit sells a $22 Holley FPR @ 1-4 psi. You think it would be any good? (if I go carter)

I am thinking about the Holley Blue like you Carfoo Summit sells the package with the FPR. is this FPR good enough to run about 2psi for a jetted Nikki? I too will be running an extended streetport in my 12A. (if I go Holley)

BTW noise should not be a problem with either one...make sure u use rubber isolators at the bolting location.

I used to run mallory setups in my old streetport but damn prices have gone up since those days.

Thanks.

well i am not serzy, but i have not had any problems or complaints with my carter fuel pump / holley regulator setup..

it is a little loud, but you have to expect that with a high flow external pump. well, high flow relatively speaking

The regulator that comes with the Holley Blue will not allow you to run 2psi. It is adjustable from 4.5-14psi. If you need to run lower pressure then you're better off buying a Carter or Holley Red and a seperate 1-4psi regulator.

Thumbs up thanks

ahh thanks revhed.

I'll get the carter and a $22 holley FPR for now. When I do the turbo/carb settup I'll get a mallory and a press. sensing FPR...

What revhed said Thanks for the info mperformance. I'll put some rubber spacers/pads between the pump and mounting point.

I'm going with the holley blue because Racing Beat says I need 4-6psi with the holley carb.

Hopefully I will have everything installed this weekend and have time to prep the car for the rx-7 meet on the 23rd! Maybe even get it up on a dyno and try a little tuning. I'll post everything I find out about this setup, carb, pump, everything.
