If it's not modded except for the obligatory headers and air cleaner, you need go no further than your basic Facet fuel pump from Pegasus Racer Supply....

  • 1102..........15 gal/hr @ 1 psi..........4.5 psi max pressure.............1/8" NPT openings
  • 1103..........15 gal/hr @ 3 psi..........4 to 6 psi max pressure.........1/8" NPT openings
  • 1104..........15 gal/hr @ 3 psi..........4 to 6 psi max pressure.........6 AN male port

All of the above will not need regulators and are about $40 US new....

Facet pumps suck in my opinion. A pair in parallel won't flow enough for a stockport with an aftermarket carb setup after 6k. They are loud and don't push enough pressure. I'd rather spend $60 on a Carter.

I would say hi-flow is always better because you can regulate it back down to where you need it, plus the stock carb will bypass any extra flow back to the tank via the return line.

I'd guess at least 50gph free flow.

Stay with a low pressure pump, but if it pushes over 4psi - regulate it.

You apparently never actually ran a Facet. The big '80 streetport 12A hit 135 HP at the flywheel at 7600 rpm with a Facet fuel pump from RB feeding a bone-stock Nikki carb. It was no louder than stock. At idle, you couldn't even hear it. Only when it ran out of gas, could you hear it. They don't like running dry.......at all......they get real loud then...but not as loud as a low tech Carter normally is. If you're unmodded, that's overkill....and if you're going to go overkill, then you might as well step up to 21st century technology and a gerotor style fuel pump like the superior Mallory Comp70 or Comp110, both which will need regulators....

one last question, what size fittings does the stock pump have? i really dont wana have to mess around with putting new fittins on the fuel lines.

I want to say 5/16" fuel hose is used, but I'm sitting upstairs away from my tool chest, it's late and I'm sleepy now... ...I'll check in the morning; I always keep extra fuel line in rubber for all of my toys...

I ran a pair of Facets, in parallel, on a stockport, with 36DCDs; they were loud and did not supply enough fuel (they were really really loud if they weren't moving fuel). I replaced them with a Carter pump and put on a Holley regulator and magically power did not drop off past 6k anymore - so I came to the conclusion I now hold. I'll agree with you about the Mallory being superior to the Carter, but at more than twice the price, the performance advantage is not cost-effective. The Carter is a good, reliable, budget pump that will easily supply a Nikki carb on a stock engine. The Carter pump is not the devil. If you like the Facet pumps so much, I'll sell you my pair.

sorry more questions...

ok so i know i need something that is 15gal/hour
or for me 60L/hour

how important is a fuel regulator with a after market pump?

if i got for a pump that gives out 15gal at 2psi with that be alright on its own? or could it still go over that and i'll need to regulate it??

thanks

the stock Mazda pump is rated for 2-4psi at 35GPH. Use that for a guage when buying an aftermarket pump.
