I am going to run a Mallory Comp 70 with a holley 1-4 Psi FPR.

But the carter with a holley FPR also seems to be popular.

I would also suggest rewiring you new fuel pump too

At least check the wires where they go through the floor, they fray and break in that location.

This seems to be the more popular choice, and is pretty cheap too (under 100 bucks total).... https://www.rx7club.com//showthread.php?t=529605

This came from "Sterling" to me in an email a while back so I hope he doesn't mind that I'm posting it here. It reiterates what others are telling you. (And today is post-whoring day. OK, actually it's tomorrow but I'm getting a jump on it )

A free flowing exhaust is the only way an rx-7 will benefit from a modified or aftermarket carburetor.
The stock exhaust is the "bottle neck" for flow in the system right now, so a better breathing carburetor will do little to help performance. Stock, the rx-7 was rated @ 105 HP, and by installing a Racing Beat header exhaust system, it will increase to about 125 HP. At that point, the engine is limited by the stock carburetor, which flows a maximum of 313 cfm.
The Sterling Carb flows 465 cfm, and we believe increases the HP to about 155.
The Racing Beat exhaust will be in the neighborhood of $750.00. There are very few, alternatives, and they are cheaper, but they are poorly constructed and so have poor overall flow rates, and are not made from as heavy gauge steel as the Racing Beat system.
(We have no affiliation with Racing Beat, BTW. They just make the best exhaust for the rotary engine currently.)

The fuel delivery system upgrade would be an after market fuel pump and a fuel regulator.
We suggest the Carter 7 lb pump. It's robust, inexpensive, readily available, and has the right volume and pressure delivery.
For a regulator, we adamantly suggest the Holley 1-4 psi regulator.
Obviously a fuel pressure gauge is needed, also. The gauge can thread directly into the second outlet port on the regulator.

For "bang-for-the-buck", I highly suggest the Racing Beat exhaust system first and foremost.

P.S.

I got a great fuel pressure gauge and dry disconnect through a fellow member. Gauge

Let me know if you need more info.

Would there be any performance increase if i put a carter fuel pump/holley fpr on my stock carb? I am on the waiting list for the sterling and i am wondering if a aftermarket fuel system will help.

I believe you would see an increase in performance. I forget what site I read it on but it said that our stock fuel pumps are barely meeting the demands of our cars when there being driven hard and that upgrading the FP and adding FPR would help when pushing are cars to the limit.

Sorry I cant be more technical but ill try to find the site I read it on.

Upping the fuel pressure might increase the performance of the stock of your fuel supplier, won't help your's unless there was a problem with fuel delivery before.

Perhaps from Paul Yaw's website?

"The purpose of the fuel pressure regulator is to supply the proper pressure to the needle and seat valve. The stock system does not use a regulator, and as a result, the full throttle mixture changes as the pump wears, as the fuel filter becomes clogged with use, and as the rpm increases. In other words, the fuel pressure at the carburetor is only correct when the pump and filter are brand new, and consistently gets worse over time. I have seen such a wide variance in pressure and flow rate that even a bone stock RX-7 could benefit from an upgraded pump, and adjustable regulator."
