fuel pump 6 or 8psi

read somewhere on here someone suggested a 7psi carter fuel pump that's 72gph as a suitable replacement. Looking on www.summitracing.com there is are 2 carter pumps with 72gph one's 6psi and the other's 8psi. which one??(85 12a, just ordered RB's intake kit, stockport)

No, you'll need an external reg.

Either of these will work

HLY-12-500

HLY-12-804

I was thinking of running 6 psi which i think is what racing beat suggests for their intake kit
(both those are 1-4 psi)

Yeah, if you're running an RB-modded holley, 6psi is okay. But if you're using a stock or modified Nikki, you want to regulate down around 2-3 psi for sure.

I have a Mallory Comp 70. 70gph, 6psi, absolutely silent and I love it. No noise of the holley and carter pumps, you can't even tell I have it. I'm using a holley 1-4psi FPR to regulate pressure and an el-cheapo Mr. Gasket guage.

yes, get the 8psi and reg it down to 6. That will make sure it stays at 6 through full throttle.

My holley is louder at idle than my RB Header, straight 2.5" piping exhaust!!! I love it.

so i'm assuming the cheaper HLY-12-803 regulater will work fine? for 6psi, don't want to order the wrong thing. ( www.summitracing.com ) Does it come with niples for hoses that screw into the sides or something? or do i have to find some hardware? Also is there any modification involved with changing from the stock fuel pump like cutting the plate or mounting issues?

No, no niples. Comes only with mounting hardware and brackets.

On the fuel pump, you won't be able to mount it in the stock location. Here's how I have mine:

I ended up getting the bigger Carter (higher GPH rating) that doesn't come with those push-on connectors. It's loud. It comes with 1/2" fittings.

The Puralator regulator is the one I've always heard bad things about.

What took you so long?

Maybe that should be your avatar? Oh and snap a new picture, maybe with a babe in a bikini holding the Mallory pump. Remember kiddies, sex sells!

That is very do-able....now that I see what folks are getting away with here regarding avatars, I can certainly field a new, sexier marketing ad for the new tech Mallory as well...

Believe it or not, the first dyno day a loong time back used that Purolator regulator to see what kind of pressures the bone-stock Nikkie liked on a big street port 12A with headers...no problems then and it's on the red '84 I sold to a friend...still no problems. I beginning to believe that is another Urban Legend like the synthetic oil lie...
