fuel help

I have a 85 13b f/i that I just got running. The car idles ok but wont rev out past 4000 rpm and when in gear wont go much above 2000 rpm. I tested the fuel pressure today, but wasnt sure that I was on the right line. Which one is the pressure line and which is the return? Thanks, Ryan

would definetly recommend you change the fuel filter, then see how everything goes. its a super common problem in these cars

The Main fuel line is slightly larger than the return line. They both have rubber lines that connect to metal lines at the fire wall and on top of the engine. If your metal lines haven't been bent around, the line more towards the left side of the car is the main line. It is almost touching the oil filter. The return line is right next to it, but closer to the engine.

13FI check the injectors they might be faulty, not sitting right, gaurmets might be worn out and leaking fuel causing your problem, or the injectors themself just might need to be flow tested and clean...

ok, I had the gauge on the correct line then. At idle, I had about 22 psi, but when I revved it at about 4000rpm the fuel pressure dropped to almost zero. Bad pump im guessing? Any way to check 4 sure?

its real easy to get one... you can get a gauge foe about $10 bucks and then go to a hardware store and get about $6 worth of brass fittings and you got a fuel pressure gauge!

Well I have found out that my fuel pressure drops as I accelerate, so was hoping someone here could direct me from there.... To me it sounds like the pump cant keep up, but I dont want to spend $100 on a new pump if thats not the problem. What are the free things I can check before I buy a pump?

Im not too terribly familiar with these cars, but, my fuel pump is electric. There is also a fuel pump relay under the drivers side storage bin that you can check, or in that same storage bin, if you unplug the fuel pump connector and run wires from your battery to that connector, your fuel pump should come on. If it doesnt, then you have a bad pump.
