yea, fuel will come out for sure. What i did was clamp the hose, try to be quick when connecting the hose to the filter so u don't spill or breath too much of that stuff.

There will also be some fuel in the filter itself. Watch out for that.

Remember to place the filter correctly, ususally it will have an arrow or say "IN" to show u which way to place it.

I'd say about .1 or less of a gallon - the thing is it almost sprays out. Be careful under there or you'll get gas in your eye and that hurts.

Carl has a pair of surgical clamps that he uses to change the filter - it does a terriffic job. I bet it's the best $5 you will ever spend

It'll be about as much if you slobber or overfill a lawnmower. Not really enough to be a big fire hazard, but enough that you will need to clean it up afterwards with a rag. The only fuel there is in the filter and the lines, so that might give you an idea of how much.

Almost any spring clamp will work . Pinch the hose on both sides of the filter . then pry away the hose and let it drip into a rag or paper towel, glases are a good idea. look at the size of the filter and what you see is what you get if clamped off. While down there look around at all the things you never see otherwise and tighten up anything loose, quiets the ride sometimes Bob

Sorry to hijack, but I think it's pertinent.

I've been half-heartedly looking for a fuel shutoff valve that I could place on the tank side of the filter so I wouldn't have to worry about spillage quite so much. Does anyone know where I might find one? Has anyone done this? Would there be any reason not to?

yep, go ahead and put a clamp on that 20 year old rubber hose, you'll be replacing more than a filter!

So then create a fuel pump shut off switch or just disconnect it and run it until it dies. No more fuel in the system. Bada-Bing
