I have been thinking about swaping my tank out for a fuel cell. Was wanting some input on this also.

I think that's a bad idea on a daily driven car. I can't imagine of what could happen if you got hit and your car had a fuel cell.

I was thinking of doing a fuel cell but then realized all the cutting that would have to go into my car's rear hatch area to have one mated up nearly flush with the rest of it. This would require cutting out the spare tire holder and everything with it. Too much work, really. But, it's all on tastes and money.

Yea, you would be a lot safer than with a stock gas tank. Why do you think they are required for racing?

As for the street, not worth the time and money. Just get your stock tank reconditioned by a pro for a couple hundred bucks.

Yea but for a couple hundred you can get a nice fuel cell. Installing is the bitch part of having a fuel cell. But it would be worth it I think.

By the time one gets done f...ing around with installing a fuel cell, it's cheaper and easier having the stock refurbished, unless the oem tank is beyond repair

Listen to Trochoid. Refurbing is neither difficult nor expensive. My brother just did mine and it was a 2 day deal and less than $120 including coating inside and out and a new fuel sender I didn't even need.

OK, these are the cheaper ones. Not legal for SCCA in classes that require a cell. The kind I think of have a seperate metal can around a bladder. Putting one of these in would be a lot cheaper but still a big pain with plumbing, sending units, and mounts. I'd still check on getting the old one refurbished.

I've heard that POR-15 does wonders. I have one of their Gas Tank Restoration kits.

So to get gas, you pop your hatch and fill into your inside of your car ? I hope you don't smoke cigs. Got anti-static seat covers ?

Do you flush it with muratic acid? If not get some acid from the pool supply place or even Homey's Depot and dump it in the tank along with a piece of chain. Shake it around so the chain rattles everything loose and then dump it out. Rinse it well with water a few times and then rinse again with alcohol. Let dry out and get a coating to pour in there or just ues it as is. I forget if the pickup is part of the tank or or not, you have to be careful if you use a coating yourself because you can plug up your lines. The pros will open up the tank and keep that from happening.
