Chain the flywheel to the motor. Bolt it thru two flywheel holes and one or two tranny holes on the motor.

Use a 3/4 in impact gun and the proper socket, it will take 3 seconds!

Theres no subsitute for the proper tools..

And when I bought my socket at seats it was like $17

Me and a friend went in haverds(sp) on the wrench from RB and did it one better. Drilled a hole out at the ring gear and configured a starter bendix and nut. The wrench now also acts as a flywheel stop, against the floor, and a much smaller socket, not sure what size, to turn the flywheel using a torque wrench set at 100 ft/lbs. Works like a charm. I've even thought about manufacturing some.

I know this is a bit different but I have a Honda oddysey fl250 those little offraod go kart things and its got a 250cc 2-stroke in it when i gotta get the flywheel off i just pull out the plug and coil some rope down there. Then the piston cant reach TDC and it just acts as a stop. I hope maybye this will be some use to somebody soemtime heh its a neat little trick :]

Not to be a jerk or anything, but if you lock the flywheel in place, then the nut, bolt, chain and flywheel absorb the force when the impact gun is doing its thing.

In the rope scenario, it's your connecting rod bearings that are getting hammered...

I have a funny story about this...

When i was trying to get my flywheel off, the damn thing wouldnt budge, tried the impact gun, huge breaker bar, everything. So then, we(my friend and I) find a big piece of pipe, slip it over the breaker bar, still, nothing.

So my friend gets on top of the engine, to hold it down(it was on an engine stand). I put the pipe over the bar, put all my weight (I'm 6'2" 270lbs) on this pipe, start bouncing up and down...and eventually, the bolt comes off.

I go crashing to the ground, he goes flying off of the motor, the whole engine almost tips and falls on top of me... Neither of us knows what happened...then i reach up, and spin the bolt...Success!! HaHa one of the funniest things to happen in my garage. Hope all of you get to laugh that hard at least once when your working on your seven.
