Unhappy frozen hood release

hey guys...i've got a 1985 gsl-se which was parked about 4 years ago outside in the rain...origionally because of a bad starter...which is the least of my problems at this point in time because i cannot even open the hood...thers no slack whatsoever...the cable is just seized...i would really like keep the hood but if it comes to cutting a hole around it that will have to do...i've tried striping the cable and soaking it but i dont think that would do anything...any suggestions at this point would be greatly appreciated...thanks...

put it up on jackstands, crawl underneath and reach up there sounds funny but it is possible. you may be able to free the latch with a little prying, or in the worst case scenario you might be able to reach the bolts.

*disclaimer* i am 6'4" and have long gangly arms so this works for me :P if your short or have stubby arms your results may vary.

When the hood latch cable malfunctioned in the GLC, I removed the starter and reached up there. Only around 5'7". No problem.

It's the same style hood latch. You should be able to release it manually.

I removed the header panel, unbolted the hood, and reached up under there with a long socket and disconnected the latch...I had to fab a bent wrench to get a few bolts though :P
