Front Suspension

I just bought some Koni Red strut inserts for my car. I just checked out the existing (stock) suspension today. Kinda was a little scared. The existing strut has the spring seat on it. Does this thing come off? Or is is not bolted to the strut?

Hopefully this will be bolt in. The struts now are dead.

Thanks

The struts you bought are cartriage replacements and require the spring to be compressed with a coil spring compression tool. This is very dangerous if you do not know what you are doing.

It would be in your best intrest to have a professional do the installation. Unless you have a air compressor/impact gut to take the strut tube nut on and off.

I've done springs before, and have the tool. What I'm wondering is, does the spring seat on the existing strut come off, or what do I have to do?

The spring is part of the strut assembly and comes out as one piece.

Loosen the big nut at the top of the strut assembly a little (because it's easy when it's in the car)

Clamp on the spring compressor (may not be necessary)

Raise the car

Remove wheel and brake caliper

2 screws at the bottom

4 nuts at the top

remove strut

Also, notice the direction of the black arrows on the top of the strut top assembly. It is very important you place these back in the same direction.

The lower spring seat remains on the strut body. Your new struts are inserts that will go inside the strut body.
