Front strut rattle

Ok, I just finished my GSL-SE suspession swap. I have the car back on the road. (Pics up soon) One of the ways I tried to save a little time was to take the GS shock (KYB) and top mounting plate off the bottom tube and place that assembly into the the bottom tube from the GSL-SE. Smart or not that's what I did. Now that I have the car back on the road I have a rattle / loosness between the upper spring perch and the mounting plate above it. When the weight is off the front suspession I can take hold of the spring and make this area rattle back and forth. What did I do wrong? I searched the forum and did not find much for this specific thing. Any help would be great.

Thanks

It could be the spring not seated correctly, the rubber upper mount or even a brake pad rattling.

Did you tighten the upper nut down properly.

Just tossing suggestions....

I have a similar problem. My new springs are so short that when the suspension is fully extended, you can actually spin the spring around in the seat and rattle it. I haven't gotten around to fixing this problem yet.

Try tightning down the nut. If you can push down on the car and try to force a rattle or compare both sides. In height, how much the bolt sticks through the nut.

Mine rattled a lot when I replaced the stock struts with Tokico Blues. Had me a little freaked out, but I just didn't tighten the top nut down far enough. maybe that's all you need to do.

Prehaps the top nut is the way to go. I actually broke down and took it to a shop they are going to address this problem and allign the front. I needed to take it for the allignenemnt any way, so I figured what the hell. Call me a wimp.

I have done aftermarket springs on several 1st gens and some 2nds, never had a problem with a loose spring in the front. Are you positive you assembled the parts in the correct order?

I was pretty sure that I did, as I did not take apart the top half of the tower at all, just swaped it over into the GSL-SE bottom tube.

I think all of the top parts are the same between the SE and non-SE. Dig out your dl copy of the 85 FSM and look at the exploded view of the parts. Make sure you have all of them, and in the correct order.

Don't have a copy of the FSM, or know where to find it? Tsk tsk, head for the FAQs.
