Front bumper...?

I am finishing up the fiberglass work on my 85. It has fiberglass doors, front fenders, hood, and valance right now. I have the front bumper as well, but I am undecided on to use it or not...

It only weight about 4-5 pounds and is a great light weight option, but it is a mold of the factory bumper. This car will be for drag use only and never see the street. I have been wondering if it will be better to get a full front bumper similar to Mariah style. Not a half bumper, but a full bolt on fiberglass bumper. The weight gain shouldnt be more than 10lbs and i am thinking the aerodynamics of it would be worth the slight weight gain... Most high HP/sub 9 second 1st gens have some type of air dam up front.

I havnt been able to find any used ones after a few months of looking. So i will have to buy new. But I don't really know where to look besides eBay... And they don't say whether they are half or full bumpers.

I been looking at these, but I think these will be a little heavier then I want. But I am pretty sure this is a full front. But little to pricey as well.

This one is decently priced, but I am unsure if its a half or full bumper. anyone know?

I would lean towards what can give you some downforce on the front at top speed

I'm looking more for a better profile not downforce. As in, slipping the air over the car instead of pushing it out of the way.

And trying to stay light weight at the same time. This is why I do not want to add on an air dam to the factory bumper.

ah, well I know *cough* if I were to do about 100mph with the stock front it feels like it wants to wash but with the air dam feels better planted ... think of a funny cars front .. but heck I don't know your setup for all I know your going to running bone stock 12a and are going faster by getting lighter and the dam may be too much to over come hence slowing you down

Have you looked at these: http://mrcmfg.com/catalog/product_in...roducts_id=490

I know it isn't a bumper skin but it should help with weight.

With the bumper I have those will not work. All of the fiberglass parts I have are bare. By this i mean no mounting points, guts, or anything like a stock piece. They needed to be full trimmed and fit. These are drag car specific parts. Not meant for looks really. Just as light as possible.

But if I do find a full bolt on fiberglass front bumper, I plan to make a set myself...

Yeah good luck with that... check out the group buy section.

I think it's worth removing the front bumper and shocks to lose the weight. Thing is heavy.
