Frame rail and rust repair on 79 Rx7

Hey I’m looking to buy and build up my first rx7 after recently completing this 12a. I found a listing on marketplace that claims to only have frame rail rust damage. The engine bay also appears to have been raptor lined. Has anyone done a repair like this? If so is it worth it?

Wow that is bad. I've never seen a front frame rail that rusty. Although that is one of the easier areas to patch, if the front is that bad I'm sure the rest of the car is held together by bondo and a prayer. In my opinion that car is best as a parts car. I would stay far away from it.

She's dead, Jim. Very unfortunate If you do repair it I wouldnt take it on any public roads or drive with passengers. Farm Truck RX7?

As someone who has tackled heavily rusted FB's (my old thread shows some of the madness - https://www.rx7club.com/build-thread...-work-1024918/) I would tend to agree - the one shown above is beyond saving unless you are very handy with metal work, or are passionate about wanting to learn. It is incredibly time consuming and while the value of these cars has gone up, they are still affordable enough to find a better one to start with. Just make sure you save as many of the parts off the rusty one as possible.

The rust is bad but saying it is unsalvageable is bogus. I have seen desirable muscle cars ( 70k + Dollars fully restored) with more frame rot sell for 10 Grand. Any welder worth his salt could fix that . **** you can even go to the junk yard and CUT a good rail off . Contrary to popular belief , a. Weld is stronger than surrounding metal. What worries me isn't the rust it's the paint over the rust . You can see cracks on the first picture. The last thing you want is finding out the rot is 10x worst.
