ok i installed a new mr gasket FPR from 0-5.5 psi and a Mr gasket FP gauge.. i have a holley red pump, i changed the fuel filter along with it.. now come the dilemma.. i was only gettting 3-3.5 psi while the FPR was set at 5.5.... at 4 i was getting like 2.. now to see if it was the gague or the Fpr i pulled off the FPR and left the gague and i was reading 4 psi coming straight from the pump... should i return the FPR as defective.. is the pump going bad/need rebuilt? i highly doubt its the gague... any ideas?

Gauges are notoriously inacurrate. There's a big writeup on it on Yaw's site.

Spend the extra bucks to get one that will actually do the job. www.re-speed.com has one that is proven accurate at a very reasonable price. It's the one I have, and it works great. Good luck.

I guess all you can do is assume that the FPR is accurate (which is highly unlikely) and set it where it is supposed to be. Other than that, all you can do is tune by feel until you get a good gauge...

 

well i went and replaced the gauge with a replacement one got the same readings.. then i installed a new FPR. and wham! Psi was within ..25 of what the FPR was set at... it was a bad FPR right outta the box... all this will be solved in the coming months as i put togather the things for a turbo.. Mallory FPR and that fancy Fp Gauge from re-speed... so thanks for the responses..

 

I've heard that a lot of the FPRs come with burrs inside which will cause erratic operation. Sounds like you found one....
