Found an FB for sale...
Hello all, first post here with you 7 guys.
I was at the dealer today, and while my car was being worked on, I came across an FB sitting by the service door. While I was admiring this fellow rotary, one of the service guys mentioned they had just got done working on it, it's in great condition mechanically, and its owner is looking to sell it. It's a gray '82 GS with just 28,000 miles. Cosmetically it's a wreck... the paint is pretty much ruined and the muffler is rusting away, but a buddy of mine is looking for a used sporty car for his brother and this seems right up his alley, so I called him and told him about it. He wants to take a look this weekend.
So what would be a fair price for this car? Rumor is that the owner is asking $4500, but that seems like a LOT... especially since Edmund's lists it closer to the triple-digit range. Also, are there any problem areas with this car to check for?
Thanks a lot, I'll take any help you can give.

Welcome to the forum and the Darkside.
Subtract one of those zeros and that might be a more reasonable price. 4500 would be a pristine car, inside and out, along with the mechanicals.
Check my sig line line for links to the online FSMs, carb manual and other reading material.

Right... sitting for so long, the car is likely to have stale gas. Once it turns to varish like that you can crap out the fuel lines, ruin the fuel pump, and fill the tank with particulate matter (usually from the tank rusting from the inside). This is pretty common... only takes 6 months for modern fuel to go stale.

28,000 miles? the owner has let the car sit because it has had major problems. Low milage isn't always a good thing. Even if it is genuine low milage (not tuned back odometer).

Low mileage is a wonderful thing!!! But only IF the car has been properly maintained. I have purchased low mile two GSL-SEs in the last three years (23,000 and 29,000) and yes they are a joy. A guy I met on our work campus purchased a GSL with 19,000 miles (he fucked his up and stated using it as a daily driver until he had the sense to sell it to someone who actually cared about rotaries).

Thanks trochoid. After all, who needs a sunroof and a rear wiper. That's for sissies. My GS is allready basterdized with gsl-se parts, just need the engine and i'm all good and it would still be a gs. LOL
In all honesty though, that price is wayyy too much for a gs.

Mine has an aftermarket sunroof, thanks to some pos po. Of course they never intalled the headliner. Any idea how much of a pita it is to trim and install a solid headliner and get it to fit and look right? That was one of the most irritating parts of the entire build. I do like having a sunroof, but I would prefer an oem one.
Rear wiper? The tint is so dark on the hatch I have trouble seeing out of it in the daytime, lol. Since I can't see out the hatch at all in the dark, and the mirrors can't see around the wide fenders of the widebody, backing up up the dark is tricky. I think my next mod will be a set of truck mirrors.
