Found an 85 thats been sitting for about 6 years is it worth $600?

If so please help me make a list of what I'll need to do to make it road ready. Is that possible to do without a rebuild?

Things to do:
Change / flush fluids (oil, coolant, gas, brake, clutch the whole nine yards)
replace brake lines
clean or replace fuel tank
change all filters (oil, air, fuel)
plugs and wires
carb rebuild

please add anything you guys can think of.

haven't bought it yet, Thank God! Just wanted to see what it would take to make it road worthy. What would you think it would be worth?

Sitting for 6 years, then yeah, change fluids and filters first. Then see where that takes you. F&F is a must. After that, I would bet your shocks are gone, or near that. 800 isn't bad if it runs... on its own. I would offer 500 for kicks and work from there.

Odds are, you will have to spend around a grand to get it in good condition... as in no bad oil, gas, not bottoming out ever bump it hits, etc.

Post up some pictures and more details when you can!

Post pictures if you can, or t least describe the appearance and condition.

Rather than buy a car for $600 and put $1000 more into it with uncertain outcome, you ought just buy a good car in the first place, like this one of mine:

Think about it.

I must say that I've had a lot of fun getting my 7 running. I paid $810 for it, and am overall happy with it. It still has some minor issues, and I've dumped about a grand into it.

So for ~$1800, I have a running, driving 7.

If you have a place to work on it, and some basic knowledge of how to turn a wrench, it can be a fun and exciting journey. Did my first engine pull with this car- so there's definately exprience to be had!

EDIT: And for the record, I never dropped my tank, just put in a tank of premium and it cleared up. I am actually still using the old plugs, pulled them and wire-brushed them... and oil (I know I need to change it like yesterday, went to change it today and saw I need 20W50? WTF! I had already bought 5W30... and wasn't going back to the store tonight. Guess it can wait another week, I don't drive it much anyway ), I also did not replace the brake lines nor brake fluid. I did get a new cap + rotor and I reccomend it.

If you can buy a car that you KNOW is running from a long standing member here that knows his cars for the same cost as what you are about to spend, why wouldn't you seriously consider that? I can assure you that you will spend more money than you plan if you are not familiar with these cars.

I don't know bliffle, but you can read his posts - I wouldn't hesitate to seriously consider his car, even take a drive out there...
Scott

For what it is worth - I have over $9200 in my car with original 143K motor! (Virtually everything else is rebuilt or new... paint, interior, brakes, suspension, and I have "some" spare parts). Paint alone will set you back $2-3K if you think you need it done.

Got this from the FAQ thread

Q. Do you have an Rx7 you're trying to restore? A seized engine? a car that's been sitting for a few years? Wondering what the "ATF Treatment" is and how to do it without killing your engine?
A. Look here: Bringing a RX7 back to life

As mentioned, post pics, inside and out along with a rust inspection. Non-running, for 600, it had better be in great condition. Sitting for that long, you will need to drop and flush the fuel tank, blow all the fuel lines and rebuild the carb. Too bad you're on the opposite end of the state.

$600 is pretty good for a baseline car like that, looks straight and clean. Especially a GSL, got good bones to build a good car from.
Buy it!

Drop the tank and take it to a radiator shop that boils fuel tanks, if it's rusty inside, have it sealed. Fuel lines, open both ends, feed brake cleaner from the engine bay side through the lines, then blow compressed air through them. Carb rebuild, do it yourself, send it to Sterling.

NY I would say 500.00

6yr non running GSL 500.00, the cost to kinda get it running 450.00, a good wash and detailing 50 bucks and the way you feel while driving it (PRICELESS).
