After pulling off my clutch to my surprise i found a different flywheel than i expected. Has anyone seen this flywheel? IE brand name? Or does anyone know where i can get a replacement friction surface?
the surface was 215mm. i had a local shop resurface the flywheel for me.. I was going to reinstall the transmission today. When i did a test fit of the oem clutch on the flywheel its does not fit. The bolt holes are too far away from the flywheel. So i need a after market clutch kit for it? when i pulled it off it had a valeo pressure plate on it. Unfortunately i dont see that style offered anymore on their site....

You have two options.
1) purchase a 225mm (long) bolt kit

2) look for any 79-82 clutch kit
Now you see above at option 1 where I called it a 225mm bolt kit, right? That is because Mazda was trying to differentiate 215mm from 225mm by changing the step height around 10mm or so. So in order to get past all that and use a 225mm pressure plate on a 215mm flywheel, get the bolt kit and use the aluminum spacers to make up the difference. I've done it a couple of times and it works great with a 215mm disc or a 225mm disc. In your case I'd go for a 215mm disc as the friction surface is only 215mm. One thing to look out for though is the 225mm pressure plate's three rivits will bottom out so you'll need to clearance your flywheel a little.
