Coolant Light / Buzzer

When I 1st start the GSL-SE in the AM, the coolant light comes on and the buzzer sounds. This lasts until she is warmed up, then all is normal again. The coolant level is where it should be so I am wondering:

A: Does the radiator need to be flushed? I have heard that at 170,000 miles it may NOT be wise to flush the radiator as it will loosen up crud that will be sucked into the engine thus causing me more issues. Am I better just replacing the radiator? (It may be the original)

B: Could the water pump be going bad?

C: Something else I am not thinking of?

TIA for suggestions all

My coolant light has come on a few times in the same manner as you have described. My coolant level is also within proper parameters. I was personally thinking the coolant level sensor or the wire going to it could be faulty. I'll be watching this thread to see if there is a consensus on where to start.

My 85 12a has done the same thing since I bought it...

Coolant light comes on upon start up, but once the the car reaches operating temperature and the thermostat opens, the light goes off and everything is fine.

I have never been concerned about this because of the fact that the engine is still cold while the coolant light is illuminated, and that the thermostat opens long before the engine reaches a dangerous temperature...

Anything wrong in my thinking?

the coolant light comes on at start up due to air bubbles, these can be caused by a bunch of things, but small leaks, from hoses or the water pump are likely culprits.

the level should be checked in the radiator, and not the over flow.

the #1 way stock rotaries die is from overheating, so keeping the cooling system 100% is really important!

My '83 did this when I bought it 3 years ago. I did a cooling system flush and the issue went away for me. Note that I also replaced the hose clamps at the same time.
